Abstract:
This invention is intended to be used as an Educational demonstration for college level instruction. The invention allows students to visualize the phenomenon of activation energy. Rearrange the unit to demonstrate the SN2 reaction and the potential energy of a covalent bond as a function of internuclear distance. The demonstration can be used as a visual aid to enhance the students understanding of the material presented during the instructors lecture time, or the demonstration can be used directly by the student as a laboratory exercise. The student will gain important graphing skills by using this invention to plot the activation energy curve. The device is made with the most powerful ring magnets commercially available. The size and shape of the ring magnets produces the unusual effects that characterize this invention. An acrylic rod, containing a metric scale for easy measurement, aligns the magnets.
Method For Demonstrating The Inverse Square Law And Apparatus Therefor

US Classification:

Abstract:
The invention is an educational demonstration designed to help students better understand the concepts of torque and the inverse square law. A variable torque pulley consists of a rigid overlapping spiral shape member and a rigid circular member. The circular member is attached to the spiral shaped member as one integral piece, each incorporating a groove around the perimeter to act as a guide for a length of string. The circular member acts as a pulley and the spiral shape member acts as a lever. The variable torque pulley rotates in a circular fashion pivoting on an axle about its center. String is used with the circular member to rotate the apparatus. String is used with the spiral shape member for the hanging of a weight. The axle acts as the fulcrum for the spiral shape member. The shape of the spiral is important because as the variable torque lever rotates, the weight moves toward the fulcrum and the torque drops off in harmony with the inverse square law.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to recombinant microorganisms comprising an isobutanol producing metabolic pathway and methods of using said recombinant microorganisms to produce isobutanol. In various aspects of the invention, the recombinant microorganisms may comprise at least one nucleic acid molecule encoding a polypeptide with keto-isovalerate decarboxylase (KIVD) activity, wherein said polypeptide is at least about 65%, 70%, 75%, 80%, 85%, 90%, 91%, 92%, 93%, 94%, 95%, 96%, 97%, 98%, or 99% identical to a polypeptide selected from SEQ ID NOs: 1-214. Also provided are modified decarboxylases exhibiting an improved ability to utilize α-ketoisovalerate as a substrate in various beneficial enzymatic conversions.

Abstract:
Improved location estimates for transceivers is described. The location estimate of transceivers can be improved for sector transceivers that are co-located at a sectored cell site. The location estimate for each individual co-located sector transceiver can be updated as a centroid of all of the co-located sector transceivers. The location information of the transceivers can be used to provide network location estimation to mobile devices which do not have accurate positioning estimates.

Abstract:
The present invention relates to recombinant microorganisms comprising at least one nucleic acid molecule encoding a ketol-acid reductoisomerase (KARI) or modified NADH-dependent variant thereof, wherein said KARI is at least about 60% identical to SEQ ID NO: 2. In various aspects of the invention, the recombinant microorganisms may comprise an isobutanol producing metabolic pathway and can be used in methods of making isobutanol.

Abstract:
Various embodiments are described herein for a system and method for estimating current consumption for an electronic device by obtaining log data comprising a record of at least some activities of the electronic device during a selected time period, parsing the log data into a plurality of component digests, estimating current consumption values for the component digests based on component signatures of the component digests, a current consumption model and a machine learning technique; and processing the estimated current consumption values to estimate current consumption data for the electronic device.
