Abstract:

The invention is a method and system for assigning notes to be played by a musical synthesizer to a predetermined number of channels of said musical synthesizer, so that the musical synthesizer may emulate the note allocation of a live orchestra section. The method includes the steps of selecting a note/channel assignment table corresponding to the number of notes to be played and the number of channels allocated to the playing of such notes, and assigning notes to the channels pursuant to the assignment table. The number of channels would typically be the same as the number of instruments in the orchestra section being emulated As new note events occur, notes are dynamically reassigned to channels so that hard and soft attacks are taken into account and, to the extent practicable, each channel plays a single note at a time.

Abstract:

The invention is a microphone bleed simulator which processes the audio signals recorded with one spot microphone and one room mic (or one spot mic alone) and simulates the sound that would be created in a typical studio recording environment wherein multiple spot microphones and multiple room microphones distributed throughout that environment all pick up sounds from any given sound source. Such multiple microphone contributions to the mixed sound are what imbue actual recordings with much of their characteristic sound quality and sense of realism, and what make recordings of ensemble instruments sound as though the players were performing together in one place. The system and method of the invention artificially simulates this natural microphone bleed and provides the means to create scaleable, realistic multi-channel sound mixes in formats such as stereo, 5. 1 and 7. 1 surround. The invention is particularly well suited to processing sampled or synthesized sound.

Abstract:

An embodiment of the invention creates a method and system for assigning notes to be played by a musical synthesizer to a predetermined number of instrument voices available to be sounded by said musical synthesizer, so that the musical synthesizer may emulate the sound of a live orchestra or other ensemble. The method includes the steps of building an array based on the number of notes to be played and the number of instrument voices available to play such notes, and allocating notes to the voices pursuant to algorithmic determination. As notes are released or newly played, all notes are dynamically reassigned to instrument voices so that, to the extent practicable, all channels play almost all the time. Additional methodology provides for correct assignment of notes across multiple different sections (or types) of instruments for purposes of real time orchestration.

Abstract:

A sample library for sample notes, wherein each note has been samples at a plurality of dynamic layers, each note having a main sample and a plurality of impulse response samples. Each impulse response sample corresponding to a deconvolution of the main note and one corresponding dynamic layer sample. During playback of a note the main sample is convoluted with a corresponding impulse response sample to produce a simulated target note.

Abstract:

A divisi process in which different samplings are provided of full section, half a section, quarter section, etc. When a first note on input is received, the note is assigned to the full section. When a subsequent note on input is received, it is assigned to a half section. At that time, the volume of the full section may be reduced. Upon receiving further note on inputs, the notes may be assigned to another half section or to a quarter section depending on the number of notes being played simultaneously. The volume of notes being played is adjusted when a new note is added.
