Abstract:

A method for forming a glycosidic linkage by: (a) contacting a glycoside bearing an anomeric sulfoxide group with a compound bearing a free hydroxyl group in the presence of an organic acid anhydride and a scavenger of sulfenyl esters; and (b) allowing a glycosylation reaction to proceed under conditions effective to produce the glycosidic linkage. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, the glycoside bearing an anomeric sulfoxide group is added to a mixture of the other reactants. In another preferred embodiment of the invention, a Lewis acid is also present in the reaction mixture. This invention is further directed to a method for forming a glycosidic linkage by: (a) forming a solution comprising: a compound bearing a free hydroxyl group, and an organic acid anhydride; (b) adding to the solution a glycoside bearing an anomeric sulfoxide group; and (c) allowing a glycosylation reaction to proceed under conditions effective to produce the glycosidic linkage. In a preferred embodiment of the invention, a Lewis acid is present in the solution.

Abstract:

Methods for preparing a glycopeptide are disclosed. The methods comprise the steps of selecting a protected glycopeptide of the formula A-A-A-A-A-A-A, wherein the groups Ato Acomprise the heptapeptide structure of naturally occurring vancomycin; at least Ais linked to a glycosidic group which has a hexose residue linked to A; and the protected glycopeptide has no free amino or carboxyl groups and has a free primary hydroxyl group only at the 6-position of said hexose residue. The protected glycopeptide is contacted with a compound of the formula ArSOG where Ar is an aryl group and G is a leaving group under conditions effective to allow reaction of said free primary hydroxyl group to form a glycopeptide sulfonate ester; and the glycopeptide sulfonate ester is contacted with a nucleophile under conditions effective to allow displacement of a sulfonate group to produce a substituted glycopeptide.

Abstract:

An illustrative expendable or reconstructable ozone generator cartridge for an aqueous ozone delivery device, for example, for antimicrobial sanitizing and/or medical treatment, includes a housing for a water ozonating manifold, at least one ozone generating cell coupled to the manifold, and optionally a data logging and authentication feature. Advantageously, a water inlet, an aqueous ozone outlet, and an electrical connector of the ozone generator cartridge are simultaneously pluggable into and unpluggable from a docking station of the aqueous ozone delivery device, for example, a hand or implement washing and sanitizing device or a medical treatment device.

Abstract:

In one embodiment, a method includes generating a first visual representation of a location of a railroad station in relation to a railroad track, receiving a request for a first maintenance window, and determining that the first maintenance window is associated with the railroad station. The method further includes determining a first time period and generating a second visual representation of information associated with the railroad station during the first time period. The information includes an indication of a time that a train is scheduled to cross the railroad station during the time period. The information also includes an indication of a time duration for a second maintenance window that has been requested during the time period.
