  • US Classification:
    1661175
  • Abstract:
An impingement device in a side pocket mandrel or other downhole tools for injecting a predetermined quality of steam in one or more zones of a formation. The impingement device directs and mixes the laminae of hot fluid and vapor and a valve in a valve pocket controls the flow of steam to the zone from the side pocket mandrel or other downhole tools. Along with the impingement device, a centralizer to guide tools through the impingement device and to cause a pressure change and dispersion of the steam; and an agitation device to amalgamate the steam may be used if further blending is required.

  • Assignee:
Halliburton Energy Services, Inc. - Dallas TX
  • International Classification:
    E21B 4312
  • US Classification:
    16625015, 166 53, 166372
  • Abstract:
A self-regulating lift fluid injection tool ( ) adapted for placement within production tubing ( ). The tool ( ) has a control valve ( ) that controls the rate of injection of a lift fluid ( ) into the formation fluids ( ) being produced through the production tubing ( ). A sensor ( ) monitors the flow rate of the formation fluids ( ) through the production tubing ( ). The sensor ( ) generates a signal indicative the flow rate of the formation fluids ( ) which is sent to an electronics package ( ). The electronics package ( ) generates a control signal in response to the signal received from the sensor ( ) that is received by an actuator ( ). The actuator ( ) adjusts the position of the control valve ( ) to regulate the flow rate of the lift fluid ( ) therethrough in response to the control signal, thereby optimizing the flow rate of the formation fluids ( ).

  • Filed:
    Sep 28, 2000
  • Appl. No.:
    09/672529
  • Inventors:
Clark E. Robison - Tomball TX
Charles R. Williams - Carrollton TX
Neal G. Skinner - Lewisville TX
  • Assignee:

  • US Classification:
    7315219, 7315218, 73 6143, 73 6455, 7386321
  • Abstract:
A downhole apparatus ( ) for determining the constituent composition of a produced fluid is disclosed. The apparatus ( ) includes a vessel ( ) having an interior chamber ( ) that receives and contains a sample of the produced fluid. In the interior chamber ( ), the sample of the produced fluid is allowed to separate into its constituents. A gauge ( ) having an array of transmitter elements (E -E ) and an array of corresponding receiver elements (R -R ) disposed oppositely of one another on the vessel ( ), is used to transmit and receive energy waves that propagate through the sample of the produced fluid. The receiver elements (R -R ) detect changes in absorption or scattering of the energy waves transmitted from the corresponding transmitter element (E -E ) caused by the constituent of the sample of the produced fluid through which that energy wave propagated. Based upon these changes in the energy waves, the level of an interface between the constituents is identified such that the constituent composition of the produced fluid may be determined.

  • Abstract:
A method and system is shown to passively monitor cement integrity within a wellbore. Different types of sensors (pressure, temperature, resistivity, rock property, formation property etc. ) are âpumpedâ into place by placing them into a suspension in the cement slurry at the time a well casing is being cemented. The sensors are either battery operated, or of a type where external excitation, (EMF, acoustic, RF etc. ) may be applied to power and operate the sensor, which will send a signal conveying the desired information. The sensor is then energized and interrogated using a separate piece of wellbore deployed equipment whenever it is desired to monitor cement conditions. This wellbore deployed equipment could be, for example, a wireline tool.
