An endoscopic working channel is made of an inner polytetrafluoroethylene tube having a spiral wrap of wire over it with an outer expanded polytetrafluoroethylene tube bonded over the wire to the inner polytetrafluoroethylene tube.

Abstract:

A working channel for an endoscope or similar device having concentric porous and nonporous polymer tubes that are adhered or bonded together. A support wire may be wrapped around a nonporous inner tube and provides increased flexibility and resistance to compression and kinking. A porous outer tube fits over the support wire and inner tube and bonds to the inner tube, encapsulating the support wire. The outer tube may have a smooth or corrugated exterior, depending on the intended use of the working channel. Methods for manufacturing the working channel are also disclosed.

Abstract:

The invention proceeds from an endoscope device () for an endoscope with at least one working channel (), which has a tubular working channel sheath () that delimits a working channel volume () of the working channel (), the working channel sheath () having at least one sheath layer () which comprises at least one plastic material, and having at least one further sheath layer () which comprises at least one further plastic material, which is different than the plastic material of the one sheath layer (). It is proposed that the one sheath layer () should have a constant layer thickness along the principal extent of the working channel (), and that the further sheath layer () should have a variable layer thickness in portions along the principal extent of the working channel ().
