  • Method Of Fabricating Security Door

    view source
  • US Patent:
    7121004, Oct 17, 2006
  • Filed:
    Jun 3, 1999
  • Appl. No.:
    09/325311
  • Inventors:
Curtis C. Shoup - Gardena CA, US
  • Assignee:
Columbia Manufacturing Corp. - Gardena CA
  • International Classification:
    B23P 15/00
  • US Classification:
    29897312, 29430, 294322, 2952513, 526568, 526564, 49 50, 49501
  • Abstract:
A security door for a gate or building opening is formed of a metal frame that defines a pair of hollow stile frame members and upper and lower hollow transverse rail frame members. Each of the frame members has an inner face with an attachment flange projecting therefrom. Security receiving apertures are defined in the inner faces of the frame members. In the fabrication of the door a plurality of metal security bars are positioned relative to the hollow frame member so that the ends of the security bars project through the security bar receiving apertures and into the hollow frame members. The security bars pass over and reside in contact with the attachment flanges. The security bars are spot welded to the attachment flanges so as to permanently secure them to the door frame. Also, the frame itself is preferably formed from a single, elongated strip of metal that is roll formed and then bent at mitered corner cuts to create and delineate the stile and rail members. Corner fastening tabs are preferably formed on at least some of these members so as to reside in contact with the ends of other of the frame members located immediately adjacent thereto.
  • Screen Door Frame Member Connection System

    view source
  • US Patent:
    57972230, Aug 25, 1998
  • Filed:
    Jun 23, 1997
  • Appl. No.:
    8/880839
  • Inventors:
Curtis C. Shoup - Gardena CA
    Alfonso Muniz - Gardena CA
  • International Classification:
    E06B 104
  • US Classification:
    522041
  • Abstract:
An improved screen door frame construction is provided in which at least one transverse door frame member is coupled to the screen door frame stiles by means of plastic coupling elements. The plastic coupling elements are inserted into the opposite ends of each detachable, transverse door frame member. Each coupling element includes a hook that passes across a free, interior wall of a channel formed at the facing, interior side of one of the door stiles. The tips of the coupling elements include barbs that engage in an interlocking fashion with bearing ledges formed on the inside surfaces of the free interior channel walls. The compression bead that is utilized to attach a screen to a door frame serves the further function of maintaining the hooks of the coupling elements in interlocking engagement with the channels of the door frame stiles. The use of the coupling elements of the invention avoids the necessity for prepunching the stiles with openings and forming dangerous, projecting metal fastening tabs on the ends of the transverse door frame members.
  • Storm Door And Method Of Fabrication Thereof

    view source
  • US Patent:
    58873910, Mar 30, 1999
  • Filed:
    Feb 2, 1998
  • Appl. No.:
    /017231
  • Inventors:
Curtis C. Shoup - Gardena CA
  • Assignee:
Columbia Manufacturing Co. - Gardena CA
  • International Classification:
    E06B 104
  • US Classification:
    52202
  • Abstract:
A unique storm door construction utilizes economical, plastic glide channel strips disposed about fixed and sliding panes of glass to provide not only a weather seal, but also a means for interconnection to a storm door mounting frame within which the glass panes are mounted. The system also provides a top edge protector for the sliding pane, as well as a sash member with a finger grip thereon that can be used to raise and lower the sliding pane. The sliding pane member can thereby be raised to permit ventilation through a screen covering a portion of the rectangular opening defined in the storm door frame. Alternatively, the sliding pane member can be lowered to thereby provide a complete, transparent, weather-tight barrier across the enclosed rectangular area delineated within the storm door frame. The system provides a means for assembly of a storm door which allows the component elements to be snapped together without the use of screws or other metal fasteners.
