The present invention relates to a method of inserting an implant comprising providing a trial assembly. The method may further comprise positioning the trial assembly between vertebrae in a patient. The method may further comprise rotating a drive shaft of the trial assembly to cause upper and lower gear members of the trial assembly to rotate causing expansion of a tip assembly of the trial assembly. The method may further comprise measuring expansion of the trial assembly with a scale at a proximal end of the trial assembly. The method may further comprise removing the trial assembly from the patient. The method may further comprise positioning an implant between the vertebrae in the patient. The method may further comprise expanding the implant based on the measured expansion of the trial assembly.

Abstract:
Diaculture of text can be determined or analyzed by tokenizing words of the text according to a rule set to generate tokenized text, the rule set defining: a first set of grammatical types of words, which are words that are replaced with tokens that respectively indicate a grammatical type of a respective word, and a second set of grammatical types of words, which are words that are passed as tokens without changing. Grams can be constructed from the tokenized text, each gram including one or more of consecutive tokens from the tokenized text. The grams can be compared to a training data set that corresponds to a known diaculture to obtain a comparison result that indicates how well the text matches the training data set for the known diaculture.

Abstract:
Misaligned bones on opposite sides of a joint are aligned using a first rigid extension securable to one of the misaligned bones using a particular surgical approach, and a second rigid extension having a contacting surface positionable in contact with the other the two misaligned bones from the same surgical approach. The first and second rigid extensions are moved with respect to each other using a lever, whereby a pulling force is exerted on one of the bones, and a pushing force on the other, thereby aligning the first and second misaligned bones.

Abstract:
An expandable fusion device is capable of being installed inside an intervertebral disc space to maintain normal disc spacing and restore spinal stability, thereby facilitating an intervertebral fusion. The fusion device may include a body portion, a first endplate, and a second endplate, the first and second endplates capable of being moved in a direction away from the body portion into an expanded configuration or capable of being moved towards the body portion into an unexpanded configuration. The fusion device is capable of being deployed and installed in both configurations.

Abstract:
An implant for therapeutically separating bones of a joint has two endplates each having an opening through the endplate, and at least one ramped surface on a side opposite a bone engaging side. A frame is slideably connected to the endplates to enable the endplates to move relative to each other at an angle with respect to the longitudinal axis of the implant, in sliding connection with the frame. An actuator screw is rotatably connected to the frame. A carriage forms an open area aligned with the openings in the endplates. The openings in the endplates pass through the carriage to form an unimpeded passage from bone to bone of the joint. The carriage has ramps which mate with the ramped surfaces of the endplates, wherein when the carriage is moved by rotation of the actuator screw, the endplates move closer or farther apart.

Abstract:
A soft tissue repair system is provided for covering or filling openings in the annulus of an intervertebral disc. The soft tissue repair system uses a single plug or a combination of a first plug and a second plug. The second plug is a flowable plug such as an adhesive material or a material that hardens to a flexible plug material. Each plug is configured to close the opening in the annulus and can be positioned within the opening, over the opening at the exterior surface or over the opening at the interior surface. The plug can also be combined with a clamping mechanism that engages the annulus to secure the plug in the opening.

Abstract:
Stand-alone interbody fusion devices and corpectomy devices suitable for use with an oblique implantation. The stand-alone interbody fusion devices may include a spacer having a substantially U-shaped body and a plate coupled to the spacer. The overall shape of the implant is asymmetrical such that a median plane, an oblique plane, or both planes divide the spacer and the plate into two asymmetrical halves. The implants are shaped and configured to allow for an oblique or anterolateral approach to the spine or an oblique corpectomy.
