Abstract:
This invention relates generally to an implantable containment apparatus made of selectively permeable material. In particular, the implantable containment apparatus is used to contain a therapeutical device, a cell encapsulation device, or a gene therapy device. A therapeutical device can be easily placed and replaced in an apparatus of the present invention without damaging tissues associated with the selectively permeable material of the apparatus.

Abstract:
An ePTFE vascular graft having a smooth PTFE luminal surface which is substantially non-adhesive to occlusive blood components. Preferably the graft is a longitudinally extruded and expanded ePTFE tube of about 10-30 microns mean fibril length and is provided with a luminal surface covering of an ePTFE film of small mean fibril length (5 microns of less) which provides the smooth luminal PTFE surface. The graft is anticipated to be particularly effective as a small diameter graft (6 mm or smaller). It is anticipated to have utility as a conventional vascular graft, as a cardiovascular patch and as an intraluminal vascular graft and as a covering for stents.

Abstract:
Biodegradable, compression resistant microparticles adapted for injection through a catheter system, such as is useful for selective embolization procedures. The microparticles can optimally be neutrally buoyant relative to a target bodily fluid. Various active agents may be included in the microparticles, such an anesthetic which can reduce pain during an embolization procedure. The invention further comprises methods and equipment for testing and delivering compression resistant microparticles.

Abstract:
An improved mechanical control cable system of the push-pull type. Conventional push-pull cable systems typically include straight portions and curved portions. These conventional systems incorporate a push-pull cable having a metal wire housing enclosing at least the curved portion of the system and frequently both the curved and straight portions. These metal wire housings frequently incorporate a tubular polymeric liner only within the metal wire housing. The improved system has a continuous tubular polymeric liner enclosing both the curved and straight system portions while only the curved system portions are further enclosed by a metal wire housing.

Abstract:
A method for treatment of periodontal disease is disclosed. The gingival tissue is separated from the tooth surface in an area where periodontal disease is present. A biocompatible, porous material such as expanded polytetrafluoroethylene capable of supporting ingrowth of gingival connective tissue and preventing apical migration of gingival epithelium is placed in a laminar relationship to a portion of the perimeter of the tooth surface. The gingival tissue is repositioned around the tooth and in contact with the porous material, with the porous material positioned between the gingival tissue and the tooth. Articles for the treatment of periodontal disease are also disclosed. One article comprises a first portion which is capable of supporting ingrowth of gingival connective tissue and preventing apical migration of gingival epithelium and a second portion which is impermeable to oral tissues and bacteria.

Abstract:
A local multipoint data distribution system (10) simultaneously accommodates many communication sessions occurring at a wide variety of data rates. space surrounding cell sites (12) is partitioned into sectors (16), and the spectrum is allocated to the cell sites (12) so that adjacent sectors (16) use different spectrum portions, but the entire spectrum is reused numerous times at each cell site (12). A time diversity scheme allocates different numbers of time slots (54) to different calls. Time slot identifiers are assigned in contiguous blocks in an assigned numbering system (56). The time slot identifier assignments are translated into a counted numbering system (58) which causes the time slots (54) for any call to be distributed throughout a frame (48) and interleaved with time slots (54) assigned to other calls. Data communications use a common modulation format and a modulation order that is specifically adapted to a particular call, thus maintaining system capacity for any spatial distribution, quality requirement, and data requirement for subscriber units (14).
