Abstract:

A wood burning stove is provided. The combustion chamber in which the fire occurs has a baffle plate that is moveable to direct air flow through one of two different pathways from the combustion chamber to the chimney. When in a first position, the baffle plate forces the air and smoke to move through a first pathway; when in a second position, a by-pass pathway is opened, allowing air and smoke to move through a second pathway. The stove can have a door in the front wall, or the top wall, or both walls, to provide access to the combustion chamber.

Abstract:

An automatic air intake control includes a timing mechanism that regulates the amount of air entering a combustion chamber enclosure during combustion of a fuel. The amount of air is regulated to provide an efficient and clean burn of a solid fuel. The control may include a cover, an actuating assembly, and a controller. The cover is movable between open and closed positions relative to an air passage opening into the combustion chamber enclosure. The actuating assembly is coupled to the cover and configured to move the cover between the open and closed positions. The controller is coupled to the actuating member and configured to control the position of the cover through the actuating member to regulate the air intake into the combustion chamber. The controller may be a time-based device such as a timer, or may be any other device that uses inputs associated with the combustion of fuel in the combustion chamber or a user's preferences for the characteristics of combustion in combustion chamber.

Abstract:

A pressure relief system for a gas fireplace. The pressure relief system has a flue pipe with an opening in its side. A pressure relief plate is coupled to the flue pipe so that it is movable between an open and a closed state. The pressure relief plate positioned so that it covers the opening in the side of the flue pipe when the pressure relief plate is in the closed state. In the event of a gas explosion, the pressure relief plate is moved to an open state and the pressure build-up in the fireplace is relieved.

According to embodiments of the present invention, a pellet stove includes a firepot assembly with a bottom plate slideable along rails to move between a closed position during combustion in the firepot and an open position during ash removal. According to other embodiments, a firebox or combustion enclosure includes a plurality of airfoils formed on the inner and outer surfaces of the enclosure to facilitate heat exchange between exhaust gases flowing across the inner surface of the enclosure and air blown across the outer surface of the enclosure. According to some embodiments, the airfoils and enclosure are of integral unibody construction. According to yet other embodiments, a user sets parameters via a wall control unit, and a stove control unit receives the parameters and automatically controls fuel feed rate, ignition, convection blower, combustion blower, and/or firepot cleaning based on the one or more parameters.

An air bypass system for use with a heating appliance that includes an outer enclosure and a combustion chamber enclosure positioned within the outer enclosure. The bypass system includes a first opening providing an air passage between a source of air from a remote location and an air space defined between the outer enclosure and the combustion chamber enclosure. A pellet furnace includes a pellet feed assembly, a conveyor assembly, a combustion blower assembly, a baffle assembly, and a control system. The pellet feed assembly includes a distribution tray having a plurality of distribution pins for spreading a mass of pellets over a desired area.
