A method for preparing a molded article includes the steps of (a) obtaining a polycarbonate resin and (b) molding the polycarbonate resin. The polycarbonate resin is made by a transesterification reaction using an activated diaryl carbonate such that the polycarbonate is susceptible to the formation of internal ester linkages (IEL). A method of making polycarbonate includes the steps of forming polycarbonate by a melt transesterification method using an activated diaryl carbonate, and compounding the polycarbonate with a phosphorus-containing compound that has an abstractable proton or hydrolyzable group. The disclosure relates to a steam stripping process for producing purified polyimides, e. g. , polyetherimide homopolymers and polyetherimide copolymers. The process can include contacting an initial polyimide with steam to remove a volatile species from the initial polyimide to produce a purified polyimide. The purified polyimide can have a weight average molecular weight of from 5,000 to 80,000 Daltons. Compositions and methods for producing compositions comprising a monoamine-endcapped polyimide component. Based on a gas chromatography mass spectroscopy analysis of a surface rinse of the composition performed at room temperature, the composition can have at least one surface with less than or equal to 5 ppb releasable phosphorous residuals, and less than or equal to 5 ppb releasable volatile organic compound residuals.
