Abstract:
A reveal substrate includes a sensitive substrate having an opaque polymer sensitive to application of one of heat and pressure which upon one of being heated to a predetermined temperature and subjected to a predetermined pressure causes the opaque polymer to become transparent and a color material disposed in relation to the substrate in a manner to be obscured by the opaque polymer prior to one of the application of the predetermined heat and the predetermined pressure and is revealed subsequent thereto. A method of printing employing the reveal substrate is also provided.
A peelable laminate includes a pulp paper-based substrate having a treated side to prevent undue adhesion to pulp fibers extending from the side and a polymer coating applied to the treated side in a manner such that the polymer coating is adhered to the treated side in a peelable manner.

Abstract:
Disclosed is a reveal substrate comprising: a) a top substrate layer comprising an opaque polymer sensitive to application of heat or pressure, and becoming transparent upon being heated to a predetermined temperature or subjected to a predetermined pressure, and b) a bottom substrate layer having one or more colored areas on a top surface thereof, disposed such that said one or more colored areas are obscured by the opaque polymer prior to being heated to the predetermined temperature or subjected to the predetermined pressure, and are revealed subsequent thereto, wherein: each of the one or more colored areas comprises at least two different colors, and comprises a two-dimensional matrix formed by a plurality of color blocks, each one of the plurality of color blocks having only one color, and the color blocks are arranged to have a repeating color pattern. Alternatively the top substrate layer comprises an opaque material which can be induced by, e.g., UV, to become transparent. Further the top substrate layer can comprise a transparent material which can be induced by, e.g., UV, to become opaque. Methods of using the disclosed substrates are also disclosed.

Provided is a reveal substrate including a release liner base stock layer; an adhesive layer; a label base stock layer; a thermal insulation layer disposed over the label base stock layer; an ink layer disposed over the thermal insulation layer, the ink layer comprising at least one color; a reveal coat layer disposed over the printed ink layer; and a top coat layer disposed over the reveal coat layer. The reveal coat layer includes an acrylic-based composition including light-scattering particles which cause the reveal coat layer to be opaque in a first state and transparent in a second state, the application of at least one of heat and pressure from a print head causing the reveal coat layer to transition from the first state to the second state, thereby enabling the at least one color of the ink layer to be visible through the reveal coat layer.
