Abstract:

A method and apparatus are disclosed for streaming an XML document/content in a structured manner that allows the receiver to decode prioritized portions of an XML document. Document models, such as XML Schemas, are utilized in converting XML documents into prioritized portions that are transmitted according to a predefined scheme. Thus, the present invention allows the XML receiver to begin processing the most important XML portions of an XML stream first as well as in mid-transmission and allowing a user to end the transmission before lower priority XML portions are received.

Abstract:

An arrangement for the control of viewing of a video/television program in which a rating code and an alternative segment code are transmitted with the video/television signal. The codes are decoded and processed via a microcontroller. A viewer of the video signal is able to enter codes of permitted program ratings using a remote control unit. The rating codes are based upon the content of the video signal. Alternative segments for the video/television signal may be substituted for possibly objectionable content based upon a comparison of the received codes and the permitted program ratings segments of video/television signal.

Abstract:

Methods and apparatus for providing a messaging arrangement allowing a user to remotely receive or download callerID information regarding a call made to the user's telephone/messaging system (MS), regardless whether the caller stored a message in a recipient's MS. The MS stores the caller's callerID information in a recipient's storage medium. Thereafter, the user or other authorized person, who has reached the user's MS, is provided access to the particular stored callerID information. The user can retrieve the callerID information, for example using a remote terminal, such as a wireless phone, or download the information to a PDA or a computer/Internet appliance via the Internet.

Abstract:

A messaging apparatus and method is provided to allow an originator of a message to review status information associated with a stored message that has or has not been retrieved by the recipient. This status information review capability exists for a pre-determined period of time. More particularly, the message originator supplies or is provided a message identifier for the message when it is created. Subsequently, the message originator or any caller having knowledge of the message identifier may access the status information of an associated stored message by using the message identifier.
