Abstract:

A system and method for viewing and controlling a plurality of digital video recorders (DVRs). The system includes a video matrix switch comprising a plurality of inputs and outputs arranged as a matrix; a plurality of cameras and a plurality of DVRs having ports in communication with the plurality of inputs of the video matrix switch; a plurality of monitors attached to the plurality of outputs of the video matrix switch; a controller that is adapted for communication with at least one port of each of the DVRs, the controller also communicates with the video matrix switch and provides a mapping function between the DVRs and video matrix switch inputs and outputs. The controller may comprise a computer that communicates with the plurality of DVRs via an Ethernet Switch, and the computer communicates the route DVR commands to the appropriate DVR of the plurality of DVRs. By use of a table, the computer can reroute video images to backup DVRs in the event of a failure.

A digital video recorder-controller apparatus (DVRC) having a network port for transmitting and receiving digitized video signals and for controlling one or more other DVRCs, and/or digital video recorders (DVRs, e. g. , DVRCs operating in slave-mode). A digital video system including a networked DVRC having cameras and a networked DVR having cameras. The DVR may be remote from the DVRC, yet video signals from the cameras of the both the DVR and the DVRC can be selected, viewed, and/or recorded at the DVRC's location. Abstract:

A video security surveillance system comprises a backup video switching control unit connected in tandem with a primary video switching control unit. A backup controller monitors operation of the primary switching control unit and automatically effects transfer of control of the video security system to the backup switching control unit upon detection of a failure condition of the primary switching control unit. During normal operation, the backup switching control unit is continuously updated with the same configuration parameters as the primary switching control unit so that in the event of a failure condition requiring a transfer to the backup switching control unit, the transfer of control is effected wherein the backup switching control unit operates in accordance with the same configuration data as the primary switching control unit prior to the failure condition.
