Abstract:
The present invention relates to the use of isomerization inhibitors in olefin metathesis reactions. The inhibitors are low molecular weight organic acids such as formic acid, acetic acid, benzoic acid, and the like.
Method For The Purification Of Semiconducting Single Walled Carbon Nanotubes
A method of obtaining purified semiconducting SWCNTs from a bulk mixture of metallic SWCNTs and semiconducting SWCNTs by first creating an aqueous solution containing the bulk mixture and adding a functionalized particle or nanoparticle to the solution, whereby the functionalized particle or nanoparticle reacts chemically with the metallic SWCNTs to form a high density particle-nanotube composite that can be physically separated by centrifugation.

The invention pertains to the use of Group 8 transition metal carbene complexes as catalysts for olefin cross-metathesis reactions. In particular, ruthenium and osmium alkylidene complexes substituted with an N-heterocyclic carbene ligand are used to catalyze cross-metathesis reactions to provide a variety of substituted and functionalized olefins, including phosphonate-substituted olefins, directly halogenated olefins, 1,1,2-trisubstituted olefins, and quaternary allylic olefins. The invention further provides a method for creating functional diversity using the aforementioned complexes to catalyze cross-metathesis reactions of a first olefinic reactant, which may or may not be substituted with a functional group, with each of a plurality of different olefinic reactants, which may or may not be substituted with functional groups, to give a plurality of structurally distinct olefinic products. The methodology of the invention is also useful in facilitating the stereoselective synthesis of 1,2-disubstituted olefins in the cis configuration.

Abstract:
The invention provides novel organometallic complexes useful as olefin metathesis catalysts. The complexes have an N-heterocyclic carbene ligand and a chelating carbene ligand associated with a Group 8 transition metal center. The molecular structure of the complexes can be altered so as to provide a substantial latency period. The complexes are particularly useful in catalyzing ring closing metathesis of acyclic olefins and ring opening metathesis polymerization of cyclic olefins.

An animal feeder including an elevated upper bowl portion is located on top of a sectional base portion. A generally flat circular disk having an annular moat region containing a sticky substance on the top surface is located in a recess of the base portion for trapping insects and the like as they attempt to gain access to a feeding area formed in the upper bowl portion. The base and upper bowl portion are connected together by means of a spring loaded bayonet type of interconnecting assembly.

Abstract:
Stressing tendons used in prestressing concrete are generally anchored to the concrete by wedge plates which are embedded in the concrete. The anchorage is accomplished by the use of gripping wedges which are placed around the stressing tendons and into the wedge plates. A gripping tool is provided which inserts and seats, in a single operation, gripping wedges. The tool is generally comprised of a holding and guiding piece and a sliding mechanism.
