Abstract:

A linear fluid impulse engine enables efficient conversion of the kinetic energy of large volume flows of fluid at low velocity into useful work. The linear fluid impulse engine uses symmetrically curved blades that are mounted to continuous power transmission belts that revolve on a pair of axles. The blades move in substantially linear paths on both the upstream and downstream sides of the inter-axle plane, which extends between the axes of the shafts. A linear cascade of stationary mid-plane guidevanes, located between the two sets of moving blade cascades, acts as a row of nozzles, accelerating the fluid so that it interacts with the downstream blade cascade with the proper velocity characteristics of an impulse device. Water entering the upstream blade cascade may be accelerated by stationary guidevanes to enable impulse operation.

Abstract:

A belt is disclosed capable of transmitting power from a moving member to a pulley which has grooves spaced about the periphery. The belt has teeth spaced along it for engaging the pulley grooves to turn the pulley. Some of the teeth of the belt contain connectors which are engaged by the moving member, thus moving the belt.

Abstract:

An apparatus for generating electric current by the force of a fluid in motion. The device comprises a support structure; two substantially parallel axles positoned in an alterable vertically extending plane detachably supported by said housing and capable of rotation within the support means therefor; two substantially parallel wheels positioned on each of said axles and the wheels on one axle being in substantially the same vertically extending planes as the wheels on the other axle; two belts, one of which connects the two wheels in one plane and the other belt connects the other two wheels in the other plane; and a series of blades each one of which is detachably connected at the opposite ends thereof respectively to the two belts. In operation, fluid entering a second stage of a two-staged cascaded flow device consists only of fluid from the exhaust of the first stage of such device.

Abstract:

An endless power transmission chain includes link assemblies made up of spaced apart cylindrical pins connected at their opposite ends to parallel outer link plates. Spaced apart inner link plates interconnect the link assemblies and are provided with self-lubricating bearings for journalling the interconnected pins to provide a flexible chain assembly. Chain rollers or bushings of polyurethane or similar resilient non-metal material are rotatably mounted on the link pins between the inner link plates and are directly engageable with the chain sprocket teeth for deflection to provide distribution of chain load over a greater surface area of the sprocket teeth as well as between adjacent teeth engaged with the chain. The chain includes centrally mounted bracket members secured to the link pins for connecting the chain to a series of spaced apart foils or blades for a fluid dynamic power generating apparatus using a translating foil or blade system.
