Abstract:

The present invention is directed to a video recorder having user extended and automatically extended time slots. An embodiment of the present invention includes a set-top box having an internal storage device, such as a hard drive where broadcasts are transferred from a broadcast input source to the storage device. The set-top box is connected to an output device such as a television, which displays a graphical user interface (GUI) and an interactive program guide (IPG). The user has the option to extend a chosen time slot, in which a show is scheduled to be transferred to the storage device. A dialog box is used when certain types of shows are selected that commonly require timeslot extensions at the end of the show.

Abstract:

Systems and methods for detecting unauthorized use of a user equipment device are provided. An instruction is transmitted, using communications circuitry of a handheld device, to the user equipment device directing the user equipment device to display a unique identifier associated with the user equipment simultaneously with media content. An image of the media content and unique identifier simultaneously displayed on a display screen coupled to the user equipment device is captured using camera equipment of the handheld device. The image is automatically processed with the handheld device to extract the unique identifier from the image. The extracted unique identifier is cross-referenced, using the handheld device, with user account information associated with the user equipment device to determine whether use of the user equipment device is unauthorized.

Abstract:

In accordance with the present invention, one or more devices are connected to a set-top box that is coupled to a television screen or other output device. A GUI is provided which allows a user to easily control the connected device by sending them control signals. The control signals cause the connected device to enter a new state. For instance if the connected device is a light and the light is off, the new state is on. In one embodiment the user accesses the GUI and defines events and rules associated with one of the connected devices. The set-top box in conjunction with the connected device then determines if the defined event has occurred. If it has, the rules are applied to the device and the device performs some action. In another embodiment, a portion of the device's action sends data to the GUI and provides some form of output to the user.

Systems and methods for presenting multiple assets in an interactive media guidance application are provided. A guidance display containing media guidance application listings is provided, where non-linear media assets are extracted from the media guidance application listings and the guidance display is divided into different portions to present media guidance application listings of non-on-demand media assets and non-linear media assets. One portion of the guidance display may include media guidance application listings of non-on-demand assets and may indicate the non-linear media assets extracted from the portion of the guidance display.
