Abstract:

A sports system may include a base and a support structure that is sized and configured to support a goal, such as a netball goal or a basketball goal, at a height above a playing surface. The base may be constructed from plastic and may include a hollow interior portion that is sized and configured to receive ballast. The base may also include a protrusion that is sized and configured to abut a support surface and the protrusion may have an at least substantially solid construction. The sports system may further include a brace that may be connected to the support structure and the base. The brace may be disposed through an opening formed in the base and it may be connected to the base by a sleeve and a pin that is disposed within a receiving portion formed in the base.

Abstract:

A lighting system for a basketball system may be movable between a first position in which the lighting system is disposed behind the backboard and a second position in which the lighting system is disposed in front of the backboard to allow maintenance to be performed on the lighting system. When the lighting system is in the second position, the lights are preferably disposed at least proximate the rim. Advantageously, the lighting system may be pivotally connected to the support pole of the basketball system by at least some of the same structure that connects the basketball goal to the support pole. In addition, if the height of the basketball goal is adjustable, that may allow the height of the lights to be adjusted when the lighting system is in the second position.

Described herein are various embodiments of a fastener anchor assembly for securing a fastener includes a base and a recess formed in the base. The recess has a substantially non-circular cross-sectional shape. The assembly further includes an insert positionable within the recess. The insert has a substantially non-circular cross-sectional shape corresponding with the non-circular cross-sectional shape of the recess. Additionally, the insert includes a fastener opening and at least one flexible portion. The flexible portion flexes to engage the recess as a fastener moves through the fastener opening.

In one example, a basketball system includes a backboard to which a goal is configured to be attached, a support structure, a connecting structure configured to connect the backboard to the support structure, a lockable height adjustment mechanism operably disposed with respect to the backboard, and a means for absorbing shock. When the height adjustment mechanism is locked, the means for absorbing shock enables temporary displacement of the backboard in response to imposition of a load or force on the backboard if the imposed load or force exceeds a threshold load or force, respectively.

In one example, a board suitable for use in water sports includes a body that includes an upper surface and a lower surface. The board also includes a retractable fin connected to the body and configured to assume extended and retracted positions. One example of a flexible structure includes an elongate body having a first end and a second end, and the first end is configured to be releasably connected to the second end. As well, one or more living hinges are positioned in the elongate body between the first end and the second end, and the one or more living hinges are configured and arranged to enable the first end and second end to be moved toward each other. Finally, the flexible structure is configured to alternatively assume at least a flat state and an assembled state, and in the assembled state, the first end of the elongate body is connected to the second end of the elongate body.
