Abstract:

A method for evaluating expansion of a business where the business is located in a first geographic area. The method includes receiving information about the business, querying a business information source and a demographic information source using the information, receiving data from the business information source and the demographic information source in response to the querying, processing the data using business expansion factors to obtain a rank order, where the data comprises a plurality of potential geographic areas for expanding the business, where the plurality of potential geographic areas are evaluated on the business expansion factors to determine a similarity to the first geographic area to obtain a rank order, and presenting, in the rank order, each of the plurality of potential geographic areas.

A system that communicates information is described. During operation, this system receives an encryption key through a first wireless communication technique, wherein the first wireless communication technique includes near field communication. Then, the system communicates a document through a second wireless communication technique, where the document is associated with a financial transaction being conducted with a commercial establishment. Next, the system receives encrypted information through the second wireless communication technique, where the encrypted information is, at least in part, encrypted using the encryption key, and where the second wireless communication technique includes a technique other than near field communication.

Abstract:

Sending electronic messages related to a tax return from a mobile communication device of an accountant or client. Computers having tax preparation programs that are utilized prepare tax returns are synchronized with a host computer. A browser executes on a mobile communication device and a web application on the second computer executes to display a client list. A client is selected, and the web application presents an interface including tax return data of the selected client on the mobile communication device. The interface includes an icon or object that when selected generates a message window that may be at least partially automatically populated. A message may be typed in the window and sent from the mobile communication device. For example, the accountant may send a self-addressed message to a computer utilized to prepare the tax return, or the client may send the accountant a message.

Abstract:

Apparatus, methods, and computer program products are disclosed that teach methods for establishing context of a subsequent electronic real-time communication. One method detects a connection attempt that is initiated by an instigator-identifiable for a subsequent electronic real-time communication that is directed to a target-identifiable. The instigator-identifiable is associated with a first identification characteristic and the target-identifiable is associated with a second identification characteristic. This method subsequently retrieves a reminder reference that is responsive to the first identification characteristic and the second identification characteristic and presents the reminder reference to the target-identifiable. The method also establishes the subsequent electronic real-time communication between the instigator-identifiable and the target-identifiable. The disclosed technology also includes apparatus that perform the methods and program products that contain computer instructions that cause a computer to perform the methods when the computer executes the instructions.

Abstract:

An optimal sample size for experiments targeting units having specific static criteria is determined, based on one or more iterations of a performed experiment. The sample size to use for subsequent experiments targeting units having the specific static criteria is calculated based on target effect of the performed experiment. Multiple iterations can be performed to refine the sample size. Each iteration uses the previously calculated sample size as a parameter. The calculated sample size is then used to determine an optimal treatment. Separate experiments using separate treatments are performed on separate group sets of the calculated sample size. For each separate performed experiment, a score is calculated for the corresponding specific treatment, taking into account actual effect size, statistical significance and homogeneity of effect. Depending upon the score, the given treatment can be accepted for production usage or discarded, or the experiment can be replicated to validate effect.

The present disclosure concerns a method and system to accurately remove a three-dimensional distortion in an image of a document and convert the image into an accurate two dimensional image. A method for accurately deducing an image of a document to a precise document boundary is also disclosed. A portable computing device may employ the disclosed method and system.
