    Jun 22, 2018
  • Appl. No.:
    16/015475
  • Inventors:
    - Davidson NC, US
Darryl E. Denton - Tyler TX, US
  • Assignee:
Trane International Inc. - Davidson NC

    F24F 11/64
    F24F 11/65
    F24F 11/72
    F24F 13/10
  • Abstract:
Configuration of flow paths for the output (e.g., chilled or heated air) of an HVAC system is described. In one embodiment, a demand response message can be received from a resource provider requesting that the HVAC system increase or decrease consumption of the resource. If the request is satisfied, then the output from the HVAC device will be increased or decreased resulting in potential discomfort for occupants. This output, however, rather than being distributed in a uniform manner, can instead be distributed, via ventilation elements of the HVAC system in a non-uniform way according to the flow paths. The flow paths can be determined to direct sufficient output to high priority zones in order to, e.g., satisfy a comfort level in the high priority zones.

  • Appl. No.:
    15/186715
  • Inventors:
    - Davidson NC, US

    G06N 99/00
  • Abstract:
Systems and methods for fault detection and diagnosis (FDD) in a heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) system include a server identifying a fault and one or more predicted causes of the fault based on measurements of operational parameters from the HVAC system. The server also receives and utilizes information associated with the reported fault from service technicians who service the HVAC to correct the reported fault condition. The information includes details of the corrective measures successfully implemented by the technicians to correct the fault, and a determination of whether the server correctly identified the actual fault. The information is implemented by the server to improve the accuracy of the FDD algorithms based on measured parameters of the HVAC system.

  • US Patent:
    20160216026, Jul 28, 2016
  • Filed:
    Jan 8, 2016
  • Appl. No.:
    14/991565
  • Inventors:
    - Piscataway NJ, US
Darryl Elliott Denton - Tyler TX, US
  • International Classification:
    F25D 21/06
    G01K 15/00
  • Abstract:
Systems and methods are disclosed that include providing a heating, ventilation, and/or air conditioning (HVAC) system with a temperature sensor validation system that measures the ambient outdoor temperature using a first temperature sensor and the refrigeration coil temperature using a second temperature sensor at a plurality of time intervals following a refrigeration coil defrost procedure. A system controller may implement an algorithm to determine if the first temperature sensor and the second temperature sensor are reliable by comparing the temperature readings from the first temperature sensor and the second temperature sensor taken at the plurality of time intervals following the defrost procedure. The system controller may also implement so-called limp along modes if any temperature sensor is determined unreliable.
