Abstract:

Rubber particles in a water and polyhydric alcohol solution are added to an asphalt whereby the polyhydric alcohol substantially coats the rubber particles resulting in an easily mixed composition with the mixing temperature being reduced to a range of from about 250 F. to about 310 F. resulting in considerable energy savings. In a similar manner, a filler can be substantially coated by polyvinyl alcohol-water solution and the same blended with an asphalt and mixed at reduced temperatures. Another embodiment relates to the utilization of a polyhydric alcohol that is added to an asphalt and mixed therewith at reduced temperatures.

Abstract:

A device for rehabilitating a knee after knee surgery includes a support adapted to support the leg at the popliteal fossa while allowing the knee to be bent about the support with little interference from the support. A method of knee rehabilitation includes the step of supporting the patient's leg on the support and allowing the patient to control to movement in order to overcome muscle guarding. The support is carried by uprights that are spaced apart far enough to allow the patient to be positioned on his back between the uprights with the knee to be rehabilitated disposed over the support and the other leg stretched straight under the support.

Abstract:

The composition described herein is a hydrogenated polymer derived from a butadiene diblock copolymer having 85-100%, preferably 95-100% 1,2-structure in one block and the other block comprising essentially 1,4-butadiene. The 1,2-block comprises at least 10%, preferably at least 25%, of the total weight of the diblock copolymer. The hydrogenated product is an elastomeric material which is oxidation-resistant and stable against ozone. Moreover, since the original polymer may be made by a method which permits control of the molecular weight, the molecular weight of the ultimate hydrogenated product is also controllable. The control of molecular weight and microstructure give highly desirable properties in the ultimate elastomeric product, and also control of tacticity and crystallinity.

Abstract:

Thermoplastic elastomer blends of alpha-olefin polymers and copolymers, such as polypropylene, polyethylene, etc. , having a melting point of at least 90. degree. C. with hydrogenated butadiene medium and high vinyl polymers have good physical properties such as low brittle point, good impact resistance at low temperatures, minimum creep at high temperatures, and good elongation. The blends can be repeatedly processed and still maintain good physical properties. The amount of alpha-olefin polymer or copolymer in the blend may range from about 10 percent to about 60 percent with the amount of the hydrogenated polybutadiene correspondingly ranging from about 90 percent to about 40 percent based on the combined weight of the two components. The blends are mixed at temperatures at least as high as the melting point of the alpha-olefin polymer or copolymer. These blends have excellent ozone resistance and aging properties, as well as excellent paint adhesion.
