Abstract:

A hyperspectral imager that achieves accurate spectral and spatial resolution by using a micro-lens array as a series of field lenses, with each lens distributing a point in the image scene received through an objective lens across an area of a detector array forming a hyperspectral detector super-pixel. Spectral filtering is performed by a spectral filter array positioned at the objective lens so that each sub-pixel within a super-pixel receives light that has been filtered by a bandpass or other type filter and is responsive to a different band of the image spectrum. The micro-lens spatially corrects the focused image point to project the same image scene point onto all sub-pixels within a super-pixel.

Abstract:

A solar powered turbine driven electric generator system. The system generates electrical power by collecting solar energy through the surfaces of an inflatable solar energy collector structure. The collected heat boils a working fluid contained inside the collector structure, generating pressurized vapor. The pressurized vapor drives a turbine/generator, generating electrical power. After the vapor crosses the turbine the excess heat in the vapor is radiated to space, condensing the vapor back to liquid, which is recycled to the collector structure. This form of power system can be scaled to higher levels of power generation in nearly a linear manner by increasing the surface area of the collectors, radiator area, and the capacity of the turbine and generator.

A micromanipulator and UV curing adhesive allows a precise end-on coupling of an optical fiber to a film optical waveguide on a substrate. BACKGROUND OF THE INVENTION Technological advances in optical communications and in optical data processing have seen the emergence of thin-film optical and electro-optical logic elements in conjunction with optical fibers and have led to high speed signal processing concepts wherein fibers would be used as interconnecting optical channels, delay lines or shift registers. Thin film guided wave devices are strong candidates to perform terminal functions in optical fiber communication systems. These applications require practical fiber-to-thin film coupling methods and in some cases precise specification and control over the optical delay from one integrated optical element through an optical fiber to another integrated optical element via some coupling regions.

Abstract:

A digital recording system contained in each video frame in memory at a we rate equal to that of a video imager from which the system receives the information. The system then outputs the information from memory to a recorder at a read rate which can be below the write rate and maximum recorder rate. The system outputs information from memory at the lower read rate by skipping a specific number of entire video frames and outputting the video frames between those skipped. The read rate is selected so that it provides a continuous stream of data to the recorder with only short gaps between video fields.

Abstract:

The invention herein described is intended to provide the user with a reliable heart rate monitor that is a completely self contained unit and is capable of providing accurate readings while the wearer is moving about. The use of piezoelectric sensing elements eliminates the power drain caused by LEDs and similar devices. The sensing element mounting means disclosed herein is devised to greatly reduce the noise introduced into the pulse signal by body motion. The use of optical sensors in a staring mode and optical sensors in a pulsed mode is also presented. The effects of noise are further reduced by employing digital signal processing algorithms to find the heart pulse intermixed with noise signals and present the heart pulse rate in beats per minute on a display. The resulting device permits the visual monitoring of the heart pulse rate in a human body in a consistent, error-free manner.
