Abstract:

An antenna array comprising a ground plane and a plurality of elements mounted thereon, said elements being capable of emitting and receiving ultra wideband emissions. Elements are arrayed on the ground plane in two parallel rows, a transmitting row, and a receiving row, such that a given element in the receiving row is aligned in at least one direction with a corresponding element in the transmitting row. Additionally, the elements are configured on the ground plane to elicit a symmetrical product response in the azimuthal plane, and to produce horizontally polarized signals. An alternative embodiment places the elements with unique inter-element spacing within the rows. An embodiment comprises a fence structure between rows. A method for use comprises the step of transmitting a signal via an element in the transmitting row and receiving said signal through an element in the receiving row, not aligned with the transmitting element.

Abstract:

Apparatuses, systems and methods for transmitting and receiving modulated impulse radio signals. An impulse radio receiver includes a time base, a precision timing generator, a template generator, a delay, first and second correlators, a data detector and a time base adjustor. The time base produces a periodic timing signal that is used by the precision timing generator to produce a timing trigger signal. The template generator uses the timing trigger signal to produce a template signal. A delay receives the template signal and outputs a delayed template signal. When an impulse radio signal is received, the first correlator correlates the received impulse radio signal with the template signal to produce a first correlator output signal, and the second correlator correlates the received impulse radio signal with the delayed template signal to produce a second correlator output signal. The data detector produces a data signal based on at least the first correlator output signal. The time base adjustor produces a time base adjustment signal based on at least the second correlator output signal.

Abstract:

A bi-phase modulator for Ultra Wideband (UWB) waveforms uses a symmetrical transformation device and a selector device to produce bi-phase modulated UWB waveforms in response to an information signal. The symmetrical transformation device receives an input UWB waveform and produces equal but opposite polarity output waveforms. The selector device determines whether an inverted or non-inverted UWB waveform is output in response to the information signal.

Abstract:

A video signal actuated switch is disclosed having general application in the area of video home entertainment systems. The present video signal actuated switch comprises an impedance matching circuit (200) for matching the impedance of an incoming video signal (VS) for display. A high impedance amplifier (201), having an associated filtering circuit (201a), amplifies a particular band of frequencies comprising a known component frequency of the video signal (VS). No significant degradation of the standard video signal results from the application of the impedance matching circuit (200) in combination with the amplifier circuit (201). An actuator circuit (202) provides a signal (F) responsive to the output of the amplifier circuit (201) to a control circuit (203). The control circuit (203), responsive to signal (F), provides a control signal (E) for controlling the selection of video inputs to a video terminal (100) and for controlling or powering an RF modulator circuit (206). RF modulator circuit (206), responsive to control circuit (203), permits video signal (VS) to modulate a particular television channel frequency.
