Abstract:

An electrical contact is provided. The electrical contact includes a body with a top surface, a bottom surface, and side edges. The body includes a retention finger formed integral with the body and the retention finger is adapted to secure the body to a carrier. The carrier has at least one hole from the first surface to the second surface. The retention finger extends through at least one hole to engage the second surface of the carrier.

Abstract:

An electrical connector for use with providing an electrical termination to an end of a cable having a conductor helically disposed between a core and a layer overlying the core. The connector includes a first portion having an opening sized greater than a diameter defined by the helically disposed conductor but less than a diameter of the layer. A second portion has an opening sized greater than a diameter defined by the helically disposed conductor. A third portion is configured to receive a conductor of a second cable. As a result of the end of the cable being sufficiently inserted through the opening of the first portion, the helically disposed conductor is exposed about a length of the cable extending through another side of the first portion and received in the opening of the second portion.

Abstract:

An electrical socket assembly including a contact organizer having a passage therethrough configured to receive a group of insulated conductive wires. The contact organizer includes notches that extend from a surface of the contact organizer to the passage. The electrical socket assembly also includes contacts securely held in the notches. The contacts have bottom portions configured to pierce insulation and engage the conductive wires. The contacts have upper portions extending beyond the notches. The upper portions are configured to engage conductive pads to convey at least one of power and data signals from the conductive wires.

Abstract:

A cable length indicating arrangement which utilizes the capacitance of a two wire cable (10) to determine its length. The arrangement includes an oscillator stage (14) having a frequency setting capacitor (16) across which the cable is connected. The frequency of oscillation is converted into a voltage which is provided as the input to a comparator network (70, 72, 74, 76, 78, 80) which compares this voltage against voltages derived from a voltage divider network (96, 98, 100, 102, 104, 106, 108). The comparator network includes a "ladder" of comparators each having their non-inverting inputs coupled to receive the frequency dependent voltage and their inverting inputs each connected to a respective point in a resistive divider string. The outputs of the comparators are connected to respective light emitting diodes (82, 84, 86, 88, 90, 92). As the length of the cable is increased and its capacitance increases, the frequency of oscillation decreases, the frequency dependent voltage decreases, and the light emitting diodes are energized one by one, to provide a bar graph display indicative of cable length.

Abstract:

This invention relates to the field of high density connectors for connecting circuit board edges to other connectors. A modular design is provided which has modules that fit into a frame to form the connector. Each module consists of a housing having a base and a cover which receives the circuit card edge. The cover is designed to insulate between adjacent contacts and to maintain contact tail spacing. This cover also eliminates the need for additional potting material between contact tails and reduces the overall height of the connector.
