Abstract:

A useful optical device to provide continuously variable rotation of polarization of linearly polarized light in a wavelength-independent manner. This device features a cell of twisted nematic liquid crystal sandwiched between an input window and a rotatable output window, both with surfaces prepared so as to orient the nematic liquid crystal molecules. This optical device has different applications such as: variable-angle polarization rotator; using broad band polarizers as an energy attenuator; working in both cases as a wavelength independent and temporal pulse width independent device. The low cost, the very wide field of view, the wavelength and pulse width independence, the high efficiency, and its mechanical simplicity make of this new optical device a very useful and novel invention.

Methods and systems for determining whether a particular individual is to be granted, among other things, access to information, access to a particular room or other space, or permission to perform a given act or transaction are disclosed. For example, disclosed is an exemplary method that includes performing multiple biometrics tests on the individual to retrieve multiple biometrics test results, performing at least a first data fusion operation on the multiple biometrics test results to determine an identity result, performing at least one biological state test to determine one or more biological state test results of the individual, and conditionally granting authority to the individual based on the identity result and the one or more biological state results.

Abstract:

An extremely non-degenerate two photon absorption (END-2PA) method and apparatus provide for irradiating a semiconductor material substrate simultaneously with two photons each of different energy less than a bandgap energy of the semiconductor material substrate but in an aggregate greater than the bandgap energy of the semiconductor material substrate. A ratio of a higher energy photon energy to a lower energy photon energy is at least about 3.0. Alternatively, or as an adjunct, the higher energy photon has an energy at least about 75% of the bandgap energy and the lower energy photon has an energy no greater than about 25% of the bandgap energy.

Abstract:

A system and method are provided for implementing a scheme to apply commercial web search technologies to biometric matching and identification based on converting biometric identification data to one or more text strings. Collected biometric identification information regarding particular physical traits is converted to a form that facilitates application of commercial Web search technologies to implement biometric matching and identification. A scalability of multi-modal biometric identification systems is maintained while substantially eliminating reliance on proprietary matchers and templates in support of interoperability and customer satisfaction. Separate biometric templates are converted into strings of searchable text in any combination of alpha-numerics during a standard biometric data enrollment process in order to limit the data storage requirements and streamline the later undertaken comparison process.
