FAO deputy director David Hallam told a press conference in Rome: "There is a great deal of talk about whether we have some kind of food crisis emerging. There is no strong evidence to suggest that in the price data."
FAO's director of trade and markets, David Hallam, said there were still upside risks for food prices, such as the potential for speculative capital to return to markets. A lot would also depend on how plantings develop, he said.
FAO official David Hallam told reporters in Rome on Thursday that "there is no strong evidence" to suggest another food price crisis, such as that which sparked unrest in the developing world in 2007-2008.
"The general situation for agricultural crops and food commodities is tight, with world prices at stubbornly high levels, posing a threat to many low-income food deficit countries," said David Hallam, director of the FAO's trade and market division.
