Abstract:

Data indicating a problem in a network is derived by collecting reformatting requests from devices in the network. The reformatting requests are generated by the devices in response to problems the devices experience in communicating using the network. The reformatting requests are correlated to determine a pattern in the reformatting requests over a period of time, and data indicating a problem in the network is derived based on the pattern.

Abstract:

A provider network is configured to redirect multimedia content between receiver devices associated with a user. Initially, a multimedia stream representative of the multimedia content is transmitted via the provider network to a first receiver device associated with the user. In response to a redirect stimulus, the provider network redirects the streaming of the multimedia content to a second receiver device associated with the user. The multimedia stream transmitted to the second receiver device can be formatted based on the characteristics of the network link between the provider network and the second receiver device, based on specified formatting rules associated with the second receiver device, and the like. The redirect stimulus can include a user-initiated redirect command provided to the provider network via the first receiver device, the second receiver device, or a third device. Alternately, the redirect stimulus can include an automated stimulus generated based on redirect rules.

Abstract:

A communication system controller is operable under program calls from two memories which are independently changeable. A first memory includes a group of hardware-dependent programs and a second memory includes a group of hardware-independent programs. Calls are initiated by programs resident on the first memory to an interface program resident on the second memory at an address known to programs of the first memory. This interface program call includes an argument indentifyng the function program to be called. The interface program uses the argument to determine the location of the function program from a program table and then transfers control to the function program.

Abstract:

A system that incorporates teachings of the subject disclosure may include, for example, a provider network configured to redirect multimedia content between receiver devices associated with a user. A first multimedia stream representative of the multimedia content is transmitted to a first receiver device associated with the user. In response to detecting a triggering event corresponding to an occurrence of a monitored condition, a second multimedia stream representative of the multimedia content is transcoded and a redirection process is initiated to redirect transmission of the transcoded second media stream. The multimedia content is streamed to a second receiver device associated with the user based on a user-specified redirection rule. Transmitting of the first multimedia stream is halted in response to initiation of transmission of the transcoded second stream and a listing of receiver devices associated with the user is established for redirecting the multimedia content. Other embodiments are disclosed.
