Abstract:

A hearing aid eartip coupler system and method is disclosed which permits interfacing existing hearing aids with a variety of high performance hearing aid eartips for use by patients with mild to moderate hearing loss. Conventional hearing aid earmolds connected to over-the-ear hearing aids suffer from a high degree of feedback and “tunnel effect” associated with blockage of the ear canal by the earmold, as well as unsightly large eartip tubes. The present invention permits cost-effective over-the-ear hearing aids to be retrofitted with a variety of vented hearing aid eartips and smaller eartip tubes to improve the performance and appearance of the overall hearing aid system for use with patients having mild to moderate hearing loss. Additionally, the use of the disclosed coupler system and method permits replacement and/or resizing of the hearing aid eartip should this portion of the system be deemed unsuitable for use by the patient.

Abstract:

A hearing aid eartip is disclosed for use with an over-the-ear hearing aid which incorporates a means for accepting a detachable wax guard for the purposes of preventing wax buildup in the hearing aid sound transmission tube. The disclosed invention is effective at transmitting sound from an over-the-ear hearing aid to the patient's ear canal, is easily inserted into the patient's ear canal, and provides for a more aesthetically pleasing form factor than the prior art. The disclosed invention controls cerumen, improves overall hearing aid gain, and reduces unwanted hearing aid feedback.

Abstract:

A wireless hearing aid system and method is disclosed that incorporates a traditional wireless transceiver headset and additional directional microphones to permit extension of the headset as a hearing aid. The disclosed invention also incorporates a mode selector and programmable audio filter to permit the headset to be wirelessly programmed with a variety of hearing aid profiles that may be downloaded via the Internet or tailored to the hearing impairment of the patient. The present invention also anticipates incorporation of circuitry within the headset to facilitate remote generation of hearing aid profiles to suit a variety of patient and/or environmental requirements.

Abstract:

An electrooptical sensor system directly measures the angle between two nearly parallel collimated laser beams. After focussing with a positive lens, the beams pass through a photoelastic modulator, a quarter wave retardation plate, and two polarizers. The beams then hit a lateral cell position sensor. Electrical signals from the lateral cell are processed with special electronics to yield a voltage which is proportional to the angular difference between the two beams. The sensor measures extremely small angles and operates at a high bandwidth. Its primary application is in the control of phased array optical telescopes.

Abstract:

Real time presentation and evaluation of any selected interferogram is realized by electronically simulating optical aberration patterns and displaying them on a cathode ray tube (CRT). The optical aberration patterns include PISTON; X and Y TILT; DEFOCUS; SPHERICAL; COMA; and ASTIGMATISM. The aberration patterns are generated electronically in response to the CRT beam sweep drive signal and are displayed as a function of CRT beam intensity. Any combination of aberration patterns, each having selectable coefficients, can be displayed. The aberration pattern coefficient values are indicated by a digital readout. Evaluation of an unknown interferogram is accomplished by varying aberration pattern combinations and coefficients until a substantial match with the unknown interferogram is achieved. The contributing aberration patterns are then known and their magnitudes are determined from the digital read-out.
