Computer Implemented Method Of Selectively Recording And Playing Broadcast Program Content
Jeffrey D. Ollis - Dresher PA, US David T. Horoschak - Doylestown PA, US
Assignee:
General Instrument Corporation - Horsham PA
International Classification:
H04N005/91
US Classification:
386 46, 386126, 360 7
Abstract:
A computer-implemented method of selectively recording and playing the content of a broadcast program includes playing on a media player one of a plurality of prestored files which include program content. A broadcast program is received and it is determined whether a predetermined criteria associated with the broadcast program is met. If the predetermined criteria is met, at least a portion of content of the broadcast program is automatically recorded. The recorded content of the broadcast program on the media player is then automatically played, either immediately after being recorded or at the end of playing the one prestored file.
Architecture For Linking Multiple Internet Protocol Telephony Devices Having A Common Telephone Number
Jeffrey D. Ollis - Harleysville PA, US David Horoschak - Furlong PA, US
Assignee:
General Instrument Corporation - Horsham PA
International Classification:
H04L 12/66
US Classification:
370352, 370356, 370401
Abstract:
An architecture and method for permitting internet telephones assigned to a common telephone number but each having a unique IP address to be used in the manner of telephones and extension telephones in PSTN. A calling agent is provided with the fully defined address of two or more telephony devices. Telephone traffic to or from either of these devices is directed to a call agent, which contacts a gateway, which rings one or both of the telephony devices. This gateway then forms a bridge with a secondary gateway, to which are attached the other telephony devices that are to act as extensions of the first, and combines the audio from both so that they appear to the consumer to act like conventional PSTN extension telephones. This architecture can be used with any Internet Protocol telephony device, including video telephones.
Device. System, And Method For Automatically Determining An Appropriate Lan Ip Address Range In A Multi-Router Network Environment
David Horoschak - Doylestown PA, US Louis Bifano - Morrisville PA, US
Assignee:
General Instrument Corporation - Horsham PA
International Classification:
H04L 12/28
US Classification:
370401, 37039554
Abstract:
A device, system and method which provides for automatic selection of an alternative private address space by a gateway-router device which is given a private address on its WAN port is disclosed. The present invention provides for a device, system, and method wherein, in a given network topology, if a gateway-router device is given an IP address on its WAN port that is in a private address space then such gateway-router device will automatically select an alternative private address space to use for its DHCP server that will provision addresses to devices interconnected to its LAN port. The above inventive technique eliminates any conflict in private address provisioning.
System And Method For Time Shifting Selective Content From An Audio Broadcast
David Horoschak - Furlong PA, US Jeffrey Ollis - Dresher PA, US
International Classification:
H04Q007/00
US Classification:
455003010, 455003030, 455003060
Abstract:
A system and method for time shifting traditional radio broadcast signals by selectively recording portions of a traditional radio broadcast signal for playback at subsequent pre-selected times or intervals is disclosed. The present system and method provides for a selection recognition engine which constantly monitors traditional broadcast radio signals via an audio tuner for pre-defined recording triggers, such as voice recognition, signalling tone, or pre-defined time. When a pre-defined recording triggers occurs, the selection recognition engine begins recording desired portions of the traditional radio broadcast, at a pre-selected frequency associated with the pre-defined recording trigger, to an audio capture memory. The duration of the recording may preferably be a fixed duration, e.g., one minute, or until a pre-defined recording stop trigger. The current digital audio stream is then interrupted for playback of the recorded portion of the traditional radio broadcast signal at the pre-selected times or intervals.
Combining Data Streams Conforming To Mutually Exclusive Signaling Protocols Into A Single Ip Telephony Session
Jeffrey Ollis - Dresher PA, US David Horoschak - Furlong PA, US
Assignee:
General Instrument Corporation - Horsham PA
International Classification:
H04J001/00
US Classification:
370487000, 370352000
Abstract:
The present invention provides methods, systems, and apparatus that allow at least two end-point IP telephony devices to synchronize multiple data streams conforming to mutually-exclusive signaling protocols into a single video telephony connection. An audio-only data stream conforming to an audio-only signaling protocol (such as PacketCable NCS) is combined with at least one video data stream conforming to one or more video signaling protocols (such as SIP or H.323) to produce a single IP telephony connection. Methods, systems, and apparatus are provided to establish an audio portion, a video portion, and optional data stream portions of a single IP telephony session.
Method And Device To Determine The Network Environment And Configure A Network Gateway
Jeffrey Ollis - Harleysville PA, US Louis Bifano - Morrisville PA, US David Horoschak - Furlong PA, US
International Classification:
H04L009/00 H04L009/32 G06F011/30 G06F012/14
US Classification:
726004000
Abstract:
A method () for automatically self-configuring a network device () being added to a network () without user intervention operates by providing that the network device () discover its network environment. The network device () attempts to access each of those services it offers from the network () to determine if any of these services are already being provided by the network (). Upon successfully accessing a particular service by the network device (), the network device disables the particular service within the network device (); and upon unsuccessfully accessing the particular service by the network device (), the network device () activates the predetermined service within the network device (). Another technique for self-configuring the network device () provides that the network device () examine the IP address (or class of addresses) the network device () acquires from the network (). Upon determining that the acquired Internet Protocol address is a private Internet Protocol address, the network device () configures itself to use a local area network port () to access the Internet () and the network () without user intervention. Alternatively, upon determining that the assigned Internet Protocol address is not a private Internet Protocol address, the network device () configures itself to use another port () (e.g., a WAN port) to access the Internet () and a LAN port () to access the network (). Both of these configuration methods are performed entirely without user intervention to reduce the amount of setup required by a user.
System And Method Of Maintaining Correct Port Forwarding In A Residential Gateway Device
David Horoschak - Buckingham PA, US Louis Bifano - Morrisville PA, US
International Classification:
H04L012/66 H04L012/28
US Classification:
370352000, 370395300, 370401000
Abstract:
A correct port forwarding table in a gateway device, after reset of the gateway device resulting in expiration of at least one leased private IP address of LAN devices connected thereto, is disclosed. The present invention provides a port forwarding table which binds a port to be forwarded with the unique Media Access Control (“MAC”) address of the LAN device which such port forwarding corresponds. In this way, if after a gateway device resets resulting in expiration of at least one leased private IP address of LAN devices connected thereto and if the LAN devices are leased new private addresses than prior to the expiration, the LAN devices will still receive correct port forwarding from the inventive port forwarding table of the present invention.
System And Method For Dynamic Alternative Route Geographic Plotting
Jeffrey Ollis - Dresher PA, US David Horoschak - Doylestown PA, US Thomas Du Breuil - Ivyland PA, US
International Classification:
G01C021/34
US Classification:
701213000, 701210000, 340995190
Abstract:
A system and method for dynamic alternative geographic route plotting using global positional satellite data is disclosed. The present system and method provide for using a voice selection/recognition engine to extract information relating anomalous conditions from radio broadcasts in the primary band of broadcast radio. The anomalous conditions are then sent to a GPS device which dynamically provide alternative routes. Further, the present system and method also provide for receiving information relating to anomalous conditions via the sub-band of broadcast radio. Anomalous conditions received via the sub-band are also sent to a GPS device which dynamically provide alternative routes.
