Abstract:

A system for controlling a marine vessel's existing horn to automatically sound navigational signals as set forth in Coast Guard Navigation Rules, International and Inland for Sound and Light Signals for boats 12 meters 39 feet and larger, Rules 34 through 37. The system provides a user-interface with a selection of predetermined horn/light signals that can be repeated once or continuously via lights and/or sound, with a preview of the selected signal. The system permits a helmsman and other crew members to attend to other duties without constant attention to the vessel's horn, and enhances safety and Coast Guard compliance, and in the long term helps to inform and educate the operator through observing the signal patterns, on the water, or in boating courses like Coast Guard Auxiliary, Power Squadron and Community College courses.

Abstract:

A firearm for firing case-telescoped (CT) rounds includes a barrel configured for transit of a bullet of a live CT cartridge in a live-fire operating mode. The live CT cartridge is chambered and fired from a live-fire chamber installed in the live-fire operating mode. The firearm further includes a blank-fire chamber configured to chamber and fire a blank CT cartridge in a blank-fire operating mode, wherein the blank-fire chamber has a second diameter less than a first diameter of the live-fire chamber, to prevent chambering of the live CT cartridge in the blank-fire operating mode. The arrangement can enhance safety by preventing accidental firing of a live round during operation when it is assumed that only blanks are being fired.

Abstract:

A self-monitoring LED marine navigation light that monitors LED intensity and if the intensity is not COLREG compliant, a microprocessor in the light simulates an open filament just as would an incandescent light, thus allowing the analog ships alarm panel circuit to trigger an alarm. The device generally comprises a base, a lens mounted to the base, and an LED module seated in the base and enclosed by the lens. The LED module includes primary and optional secondary LED lights plus one or more photodiode(s) exposed to the LED light(s). The LED also includes a processor and software for measuring light intensity input to the photodiode(s), comparing measured intensity to a minimum COLREG threshold, and signaling failure when measured intensity falls below said minimum threshold.
