Abstract:

A locking device suitable for NID housing security. The device includes a slotted cylinder, a key and key tool. The slotted cylinder has a resistance component contained in the cylinder. The key is mateable with the slotted cylinder and is held in place by the force of the resistance component. The key head has a cavity therein of a complimentary shape to the key tool so that the tool may be used to turn the key for locking or unlocking. A cylindrical sleeve is used for additional security. The sleeve fits over the mated key and slotted cylinder to protect against release of the parts and may further provide a barrier to removal from a structure being locked. By use of different key head cavity shapes each subscriber may only access their own line in a NID.

Abstract:

A system for stabilizing, moderating and/or controlling the temperature of an outdoor enclosure, such as a network interface device, using room-temperature air from the associated building. A fan draws the room temperature (or moderate-temperature) air through a conduit from the interior of the dwelling to the outdoor enclosure. The outdoor enclosure is temperature-stabilized as indoor air flows through it. The air may flow through the same conduit that accommodates the data lines. A power line for the fan may be located in the same conduit. The system may be arranged to prevent insects and contaminants from entering the enclosure.

Abstract:

A method for environmentally sealing an electrical contact including spraying a curable gel sealant in an uncured fluid form onto all exposed surfaces of the electrical contact and curing it to form an environmentally protective gel coating on all of the exposed surfaces of the contact. In another embodiment of the method, at least one bead of the curable gel sealant in its fluid form is deposited onto an electrical contact and spread across all exposed surfaces of the contact with a stream of air directed against the bead of the sealant. The sealant is then cured to form an environmentally protective gel coating on all of the exposed surfaces of the contact.

Abstract:

A network interface device includes a base, a cover and a circuit board secured in the base. The circuit board includes terminations for input and output communication lines. Each pair of input and output communication lines corresponds to a single standard telephone line, a high speed data line or other type of line. The communication line terminations may be implemented as insulation displacement connectors, and the cover may include projections on its inner surface such that closing the cover also closes the insulation displacement connectors on the circuit board. For each communication line, the circuit board may include a subscriber bridge which establishes a breakable connection between the input and output line terminations via traces in the circuit board. In fixed wireless, fiber-to-the-home (FITI) and other similar applications, the circuit board may also include terminations for input and output power lines, and the base and cover may be extended to accommodate an uninterruptible power supply. The power supply supplies the input power line to the corresponding termination on the circuit board, and the output power line is supplied to a power input of a remote unit in a fixed wireless system or other electronic unit external to the network interface device.

Abstract:

A mechanically sealed insulation displacement connector includes a contact and a wire holder. The wire holder has a channel for receiving an insulated wire and a slot for receiving the contact. One end of the channel has a conical shaped region which provides a positive stop for an inserted wire. The positive stop causes the insulation of the inserted wire to press against the inside surface of the conical region when the wire is inserted into the channel. The insulation is slightly deformed providing an inexpensive and effective seal for the wire's conductor without the use of gelled oils and greases. As the insulation is pressed against the conical shaped region, the wire holder is rotated enabling the contact to move into the slot where it pierces the insulation and grips the conductor of the wire, thereby making an electrical connection and holding the insulation against the conical shaped region.
