Abstract:

A flexible takeup leader that prevents a deformation in the takeup leader from causing a tape drive failure. The takeup leader comprises an elongated main body integrally formed between a first end and a second end. The elongated main body includes a plurality of apertures formed in at least one section of the elongated main body that corresponds to at least one curvilinear point around a guide roller when the tape drive is in the unloaded condition. The apertures increase the flexibility of the takeup leader to prevent tape drives from realizing erratic behavior caused by a deformed takeup leader. The increased flexibility permits the tape drive to pull a deformed takeup leader through a curvilinear tape path with a substantially smooth motion.

Abstract:

A space efficient and cost effective hinge clutch mechanism for facilitating the rotational positioning of a lid member of a portable electronic device relative to the housing the device. The clutch mechanism includes an elongated cam-shaft extending through a plurality of aligned components including a face cam member, a cam follower, and a compression spring and partially through a hollow retaining member. Rotation of the retaining member prevents the cam-shaft from being inadvertently with drawn. The clutch mechanism may be manually or automatically pre-assembled before insertion into the housing. An idler positioned adjacent to the retaining member serves as conduit for wires extending from the rotating lid member and the housing of the portable electronic device. The interaction of the cam and cam follower retains the lid in its fully open or fully closed positions until sufficient rotational force is exerted on the lid to overcome the tangential force of the spring.

Abstract:

The disclosed embodiments provide devices and methods for movably connecting module layers of an electronic device to discretely actuate a first predetermined operational mode while locking out other predetermined operational modes. In one embodiment, for example, an electronic device includes a first module layer movable in a first direction and a second module layer movably connected relative to the first module layer. Further, a third module layer is movably connected relative to the second module layer and movable in a second direction. Abstract:

A determination is made as to whether or not storage devices of a storage array are positioned in their proper physical locations in the array. To make the determination, a device identifier for each of the storage devices is utilized, together with a generated logical identifier. In a preferred embodiment, the device identifier is the serial number for the storage device and the logical identifier includes a combination of all the device identifiers for a particular logical volume of the storage array. Preferably, the logical identifier also includes system status information for use in enhancing fault tolerance. The logical identifier is written or updated upon the occurrence of predetermined events or conditions. Using the device identifiers and the logical identifier, an indication can be provided whenever the proper storage devices are not found in the logical volume whereby corrective action can be taken to avoid improper distribution to or reassembly of data from the logical volume.
