Abstract:

A mechanism that provides for communication of heartbeat signals from servers (call agents) to clients (gateways) in a packet telephony network environment. Clients listen for receipt of multicast heartbeats from any of the servers that may be part of a multicast group. A client assigned to a particular server for control messaging, upon failure to receive a response to a message sent to the assigned server and failure to receive a heartbeat from the assigned server, may select a second server from among the servers and re-send the message to the second server. Without receipt of heartbeat signals, the client defaults to a normal retry behavior for re-sending the message first to the assigned server a number of times before attempting to re-send the message to the second server. With receipt of the heartbeat from the second server, the client adopts an aggressive retry behavior by re-sending the message to the assigned server a lesser number of retries before attempting to re-send the message to the second server. The clients use the multicast heartbeats as a hint, allowing them to switch to the more aggressive retry behavior and consequently reduce the time to re-associate with a new server and re-establish a new security association (if IPsec is used), resulting in a drastic reduction in service delay due to server failures.

A telecommunications network (10) includes a plurality of transport node controllers (18) that interface with a plurality of local communication processors (16) for the transfer of telecommunications information between subscribers (14) associated with the local communication processors (16) and also for subscribers remote from the transport node controller (18). Abstract:

A system is provided for logging digital messages and forwarding them outside a proprietary telecommunications network. The system includes a service logic program ("SLP") which determines whether the message is to be forwarded outside the proprietary system. If the message is to be forwarded outside the system, the SLP sends it to the main relay, which logs the message to a log file, and forwards it to a discriminator. The discriminator forwards the message to a sub-relay, which is connected to a vendor application. The sub-relay forwards the message outside the proprietary telecommunications system, to the vendor application.

An airborne grapple saw system includes a suspension assembly, a hydraulic power pack assembly, and a grapple saw head assembly. The suspension assembly is configured to be suspended from an aerial vehicle. The hydraulic power pack assembly is operatively coupled with the suspension assembly. The grapple saw head assembly is operatively coupled with the hydraulic power pack assembly. The grapple saw head assembly is configured to freely rotate about a vertical axis an unlimited number of revolutions. The grapple saw head assembly includes a saw and first and second grapple arms.
