Abstract:

A removable storage device that automatically selects a communication protocol to exchange information with a host computer includes a physical layer interface, a protocol failure detection module, a connect and disconnect emulator, an insert and removal detector, and internal control logic. The internal control logic coordinates detecting an attachment of the device to a target host computer and attempting an initial protocol for communication with the target host computer. The logic also logically disconnects and reconnects to the target host computer if the protocol failure detector indicates that the initial protocol has failed and then attempts a second protocol for communications with the target host computer. If successful, the device sets a success indicator to record which protocol was finally successful for communications with the target host computer. The success indicator is subsequently used to indicate which protocol to try first when the device is reconnected to a host computer.

Abstract:

An environmental capture system (ECS) captures image data and depth information in a 360-degree scene. The captured image data and depth information can be used to generate a 360-degree scene. The ECS comprises a frame, a drive train mounted to the frame, and an image capture device coupled to the drive train to capture, while pointed in a first direction, a plurality of images at different exposures in a first field of view (FOV) of the 360-degree scene. The ECS further comprises a depth information capture device coupled to the drive train. The depth information capture device and the image capture device are rotated by the drive train about a first, substantially vertical, axis from the first direction to a second direction. The depth information capture device, while being rotated from the first direction to the second direction, captures depth information for a first portion of the 360-degree scene. The image capture device captures, while pointed in the second direction, a plurality of images at different exposures in a second FOV that overlaps the first FOV of the 360-degree scene. The depth information capture device and the image capture device are rotated by the drive train about the first axis from the second direction to a third direction. The depth information capture device, while being rotated from the second direction to the third direction, captures depth information for a second portion of the 360-degree scene. The image capture device, while pointed in the third direction, captures a plurality of images at different exposures in a third FOV that overlaps the second FOV of the 360-degree scene.

Abstract:

Apparatus for managing animals such as but not limited to livestock. In some embodiments, a tag assembly is configured for attachment to an outer ear of an animal. The tag assembly has a main body and a shaft that extends through an aperture extending through the outer ear to attach the main body to a facing surface of the outer ear. A primary temperature sensor of the tag assembly is configured to obtain outer ear temperature data indicative of an outer ear temperature of the outer ear. A control circuit is configured to receive the outer ear temperature data via a wireless communication link with the tag assembly. The control circuit determines a health state of the animal in response to a localized change in a magnitude of the outer ear temperature data in relation to a set of ambient temperature data over a selected time interval.

Abstract:

Apparatus and method for managing animals such as but not limited to livestock. In some embodiments, an ear tag assembly has a main body, a backing member and a shaft that extends through an aperture through an outer ear of an animal to interconnect the main body and the backing member. A primary temperature sensor obtains an outer ear temperature of the outer ear. An ambient temperature sensor obtains an ambient temperature of a surrounding environment external to the animal. A control circuit receives the outer ear and ambient temperatures and determines a state of the animal responsive to a comparison of the outer ear temperature and the ambient temperature over a selected time interval.
