Abstract:

A container has a body with side walls and a bottom, as well as a cover connected to the side walls but below the rim. The cover is shaped as an offset dome or a sloped roof such that the bung is adjacent a side wall and at the highest point of the cover when the container is upright. A ridge runs from the bung to the side wall diametrically opposite the bung, thereby creating a downward slope from the ridge to the line of intersection of the cover with the side walls. The line of intersection of the cover with the side walls may be horizontal or at a slight angle upwardly to the position of the bung. An air tube may be placed within the bung and extend to the point of intersection of the side wall with the bottom which is farthest from the position of the bung. An alternative air tube or a second air tube may be placed within the bung and extend to the point of intersection of the side wall with the cover which is farthest from the position of the bung.

Abstract:

Pure DHA and pure EPA can be obtained from a mixture of EPA and DHA in a solution by forming salts of DHA and EPA which have different solubilities in the solvent, cooling the solution until the salt of EPA is formed, filtering the solution to recover the salt of EPA, and acidifying the EPA salt and the DHA salt to obtain pure EPA and pure DHA.

Trans-9,cis-11-octadecadienoic acid is produced by forming a urea inclusion complex with cis-linoleic acid, treating the complex with a catalytic amount of a base, and recovering the trans-9,cis-11 octadecadienoic acid. Tans-10,cis-12-octadecadienoic acid is produced by iodinating cis-linoleic acid at temperatures of about −5–20 C. A mixture of trans-9,cis-11 octadecadienoic acid and trans-10,cis-12-octadecadienoic acid comprising is produced by iodinating cis-linoleic acid at temperatures ranging from about 50 to about 90 C.

Abstract:

A system for cleaning air wherein the air to be cleaned is bubbled up through an aqueous phase and an organic phase. The air is bubbled upwardly through the liquid to take advantage of the weight of the liquid to compress the gas, thereby increasing the solubility of the gas in the liquid. Because of specific gravity, the aqueous phase is generally at the bottom of at least one cylinder or container, and the organic phase is generally on top of the aqueous phase. Gases are removed either continuously or periodically to ensure that there are adequate reagents in the aqueous and organic phases, so that the reagents therein can be replaced as needed. There is no limit to the number of cylinders that can be used, depending upon the impurity and thus the amount of reagents to be used in treating the air.

Abstract:

Oils are washed directly with a lower alcohol to remove cholesterol and other contaminants. The washing is effected at a temperature sufficiently low that the alcohol and oil remain immiscible. The composition is then heated to form a single phase. The solution is then cooled to below 10 C. to separate the alcohol and oil phases. Undesirable components, such as cholesterol, organic contaminants, and heavy metals remain in the alcohol phase, separate from the pure oil.
