Abstract:

An automatic gain control device () includes a peak detector () configured to receive a current output of an ADC () and to compare it to a previous output to produce a peak value. The automatic gain control device () also includes an out-of-range indicator () configured to receive an out-of-range signal if an input to the ADC exceeds the dynamic range of the ADC. The out-of-range indicator () increases the peak value if the out-of-range indicator () receives the out-of range signal. An error detector () is coupled to the out-of-range indicator () and the peak detector () and produces an error level that is the difference of an output of the out-of-range indicator () and a pre-selected target value. The pre-selected target value is chosen to attenuate interference signals that exceed the dynamic range of the ADC () but minimizes the attenuation of communication signals. An integrator () is coupled to the error detector () and sums the error level with an integrator value to determine a new integrator value.

Abstract:

In an exemplary embodiment, a free running VCO has two modes: a normal operating mode and a calibration mode. In the calibration mode, the free running VCO is phase lock looped with itself instead of a calibration VCO. Furthermore, in an exemplary embodiment, a tuning voltage for the free running VCO is adjusted to offset any tuning error. In addition, in various embodiments a reference crystal oscillator used in the phase lock loop is located on a DSP module instead of on the RF module. In yet another exemplary embodiment, the free running VCO is the only high frequency VCO on a radio frequency module.

Abstract:

Various techniques may be implemented to isolate a receive signal from a transmit signal in an antenna. Signal isolation is desirable because it prevents interference of the signals with one another and minimizes signal noise, which reduces the signal quality. Some of the techniques are symmetry of at least two receive channels with regards to a transmit channel, using differential signals within the antenna, designing receive channel inputs to be orthogonal to a transmit channel, and designing a voltage controlled oscillator to be on the same substrate as the tuning circuitry of the voltage controlled oscillator.
