Abstract:

This invention relates to novel water soluble metal working fluid compositions, their use to work metal, a process for working metal using such compositions and the metal worked article of manufacture. More particularly, this invention relates to fluid compositions useful in cutting, grinding, shaping and other metal working operations which require a lubricant. The terms âfirst Group Aâ and âsecond Group Bâ are used herein to denote different groups and not to indicate any sequence of use or selection as any possible combination or sequence of use of a component(s) is envisioned without limit of any kind. The disclosed fluid compositions are also anticorrosive and environmentally more acceptable than current oil based fluids. There has now been discovered an essentially odorless, substantially non-oil misting, water-soluble metal working fluid comprising at least one component selected from a first Group A herein and optionally one or more components selected from a second Group B herein preferably with the balance of the composition being water and other (optional) minor ingredients. When a component is employed from Group A and a component is employed from Group B the action of the combination generally enhances performance of the resulting combination with contain moieties from both Group A and Group B.

Abstract:

There are disclosed corrosion inhibiting compositions comprising (a) at least one amido acid or salt thereof and (b) at least one of an aryltriazole or 3-amino-1,2,4-triazole wherein the molar ratio of (a) to (b) is about 0. 34:1 to about 5:1, and aqueous metal working fluids containing the corrosion inhibiting compositions of the invention.

Abstract:

A metal/polymer laminate having a corrosion resistant metal surface. The laminate includes a metal film having opposite surfaces, one of which is coated with a coating which contains an intrinsically conducting polymer which inhibits corrosion of the opposite surface of the metal film. The coating can also be bonded to a substrate such as a non-conducting polymer or a second metal film. When the coating is also bonded to a substrate, it forms an interlayer between the metal film and the substrate. The laminate serves to protect the metal surface from corrosion in acid, salt and alkaline corrosive environments.

Abstract:

A corrosion inhibiting composition is provided. The composition comprises an intrinsically conductive polymer, e. g. polyaniline or polypyrrole, blended in a binder material, preferably a non-thermoplastic matrix, the blend being capable of adhering to a metal surface to provide enhanced corrosion resistance to the metal. The blend provides corrosion resistance in a variety of corrosive environments such as acidic, alkaline, and salt environments. A method for protecting metal surfaces from corrosive attack by applying the corrosion inhibiting composition is provided, as well as two component corrosion inhibiting coatings, corrosion inhibited thin films of metal adhered to an intrinsically conducting polymer containing substrate, and corrosion inhibited metal bilayers.
