Abstract:

A real-time observation assessment system includes an assessment application that enables an assessor to administer a probe to a student, and to capture responses of the student, and to automatically score the captured responses. The assessment system includes a user interface of the assessment application. The user interface includes a first area of the user interface that displays a character sequence that is divided into multiple segments, where at least two of the multiple segments of the character sequence are separately selectable and a second area of the user interface that is divided into multiple segments corresponding to each segment of the character sequence in the first area, where each segment in the second area is separately selectable to enable capturing of different combinations of student responses reflecting selection of one or more of the segments in the second area. A scoring module enables a score to be calculated based on the selected segments according to scoring rules for the probe.

Abstract:

A stamped hardened sheet steel tapered ferrule with cantilevered radially resilient fingers is wedged by a spring against a tapered bore of a hardened steel housing. The fingers bend radially inwardly to grip a stranded steel cable in the ferrule bore in response to the spring action. When the cable is slid in the ferrule in one direction, the ferrule gripping the cable is further wedged against the tapered bore and further grips the cable. The cable is released when it is slid in the opposite direction pulling the engaged ferrule away from the tapered bore of the housing. The cable has a flag at one end which with the seal lock a hasp therebetween limiting the relative motion of the cable in the opposite ferrule release direction. In a second embodiment, the ferrule is in interference fit with a rod or cable and the spring is not used forcing the ferrule to always grip the rod or cable. The ferrule in both embodiments grips the softer cable with higher rotational force than the ferrule friction force with the housing bore so that rotation or twisting of the cable relative to the housing rotates the ferrule therewith.

Peptides, such as calcitonin, having two cysteine residues connected by a disulfide bond are prepared by a process which includes the step of cyclizing the cysteines at a pH of 8. 5 to 9. 0, and a concentration of 0. 4 to 1. 8 mg of peptide per ml of solution. A character generator with multidirectional scan and variable line and character (or symbol) size capability is disclosed. Universality is implemented by producing a serial binary stream which can be used to print or display in any of eight combinations of scan direction and progression, that is, for scan direction left to right, or vice versa, progressing up or down, or scan direction top or bottom or vice versa, progressing left or right. In formatting the serial binary stream, a font is accessed (for basic symbol definition), which selectively provides for orthogonal scan of the symbol definitions. Variable line size is implemented by terminating a symbol row (or line) based on a predetermined size criteria regardless of the comparable font dimension and "filling" up to the line size to the extent the corresponding font dimension is less than the predetermined size criteria. Variable character (or symbol) size is implemented by independently multiplying the effect of a symbol definition by selected (integral) factors, in orthogonal directions. The general architecture includes a font table (for symbol definition), an address/escape (A/E) table, defining symbol size for comparison with line size parameters, a character position escape (CPE) table to define a leading character or symbol on each line and a page buffer (PB) memory defining the characters (symbols) in the document and their relationship with other characters (symbols).
