Abstract:

A method of manufacturing a sealed beam lamp wherein an adhesive activated by ultraviolet light is used for bonding the terminals of a light source assembly to a reflector characterized in that the ultraviolet light is directed through a lens bonded to the reflector for activating the adhesive and thereby fixing the light source assembly to the reflector.

Abstract:

A lamp having a minimum number of parts consisting of lamp terminals, a lens, light bulb and reflector, the lens and reflector forming a sealed envelope containing the light bulb, the bulb lead wires being secured directly to the inner ends of the terminals positioned within the envelope and constituting a light source assembly. The terminals extend through openings formed at the rear of the reflector, the openings being large enough to allow adjustment of the light source assembly with respect to the reflector in the X-Y-Z axes by manipulating the light source assembly from the rear of and outside the lamp envelope thus simultaneously compensating for variations between bulbs, reflectors and lenses. The lamp is aimed simultaneously with adjustment of said light source assembly. The defined construction eliminates the need for mounting and sealing ferrules and separate lead-in wires between the terminals and the bulb.

Abstract:

A lamp assembly having an adjustment mechanism that connects a lamp unit to a support housing and includes a pair of bosses integral with the opposite sides of the headlamp unit and provided with screw means which cooperate with a pair of nuts that are mounted in a support plate for movement when the screw means are loosened and the lamp unit is manually adjusted about a horizontal axis. When the screw means are tightened, frictional engagement between the nuts and the support plate occurs so that the lamp unit is then maintained in the desired adjusted position.

Abstract:

Ambient audio signals from the customer shopping area within a store are sensed and fed to a signal processing circuit that produces a control signal which varies with variations in the amplitude of the sensed audio signals. A control circuit adjusts the amplitude of an auditory subliminal anti-shoplifting message to increase with increasing amplitudes of sensed audio signals and decrease with decreasing amplitudes of sensed audio signals. This amplitude controlled subliminal message may be mixed with background music and transmitted to the shopping area. To reduce distortion of the subliminal message, its amplitude is controlled to increase at a first rate slower than the rate of increase of the amplitude of ambient audio signals from the area. Also, the amplitude of the subliminal message is controlled to decrease at a second rate faster than the first rate with decreasing ambient audio signal amplitudes to minimize the possibility of the subliminal message becoming supraliminal upon rapid declines in ambient audio signal amplitudes in the area. A masking signal is provided with an amplitude which is also controlled in response to the amplitude of sensed ambient audio signals.

Abstract:

In a lamp assembly having a rearwardly extending annular boss on the rear of the reflector about an opening in the reflector, a terminal socket sealed to the rear surface of the boss, said socket having a central portion through which the lamp terminals extend into the reflector and are sealed, an annular dish shaped portion integrally formed with the central portion extending outwardly and transversely to the longitudinal axis of the lamp assembly, sealing compound between the adjacent surfaces of the boss and the dish shaped portion of the terminal socket, the width of the dish shaped portion being larger than the width of the seating surface of the boss to enable free sliding movement therebetween for adjustment of the light source with respect to the reflector in the up-down and sideways directions, this and longitudinal sliding of the terminals being performed prior to the setting of the sealing compound.

A reflector for supporting a tungsten-halogen lamp assembly having a light bulb connected to a plurality of terminals. The reflector includes a parabolic section the rear central portion of which is integrally formed with a boss. At least two slots are formed in the boss for receiving the terminals, and each slot is located in a cavity which is adapted to be filled with an adhesive for fixing the terminals to the reflector after the lamp assembly is optically aimed.
