Abstract:
A system for transferring a sequence of actions to an electronic meter through a bandwidth limited communications channel. The sequence of actions is programmed as a program file that is broken into pieces for transmission to the electronic meter. The pieces are received by the electronic meter, verified not to contain errors, and combined into a single program session. Any errors in the transmission are noted in a status table and the program file is retransmitted. Upon receipt of an execute command, the program session is commenced. After the session has completed the status table is updated. Thus, the electronic meter may be programmed in a programming session that contains more data than can be transferred via the bandwidth limited communications channel.

Abstract:
Techniques for over the air (OTA) microcontroller flash memory updates using a wireless network are disclosed herein. A control node first transmits the microcontroller flash memory update to all devices that can receive the message. Each packet of the message is relayed through multiple communication levels until all devices receive the packet. This starts with communications from the control node to each device node that has a direct communication path to the control node, which are referred to herein as “first level” device nodes. The first level device nodes then relay each communication to each other device node that has a direct communication path to the first level device nodes, which are referred to herein as “second level” device nodes. This process is repeated at each level of the wireless network until each of the plurality of device nodes has received the microcontroller flash memory update.

Abstract:
Meters are configured using either a program update method or a meter update method. In the program update method, meters associated with a specified configuration program are identified and configured with updated parameters. In the meter update method, a specified set of meters is configured with a specified set of updated configuration parameters. The meter update method enables both time of use and other configuration parameters to be updated. Both methods enable various actions to be performed in conjunction with a meter configuration. Such actions may include, for example, recording a snapshot of current billing data, resetting billing data, and resetting demand data.

Abstract:
A power facility has at least one power element and a system monitors/controls at least a portion of the power facility. In the system, a field drop is coupled to each element for monitoring same, reporting status data, receiving control information, and controlling such element. A local area network (LAN) couples each field drop to a hub, and a data server is coupled to the hub. The data server receives the status data from each field drop and takes any appropriate action necessary in response thereto, and also allows a user to access any particular field drop of the system to read data for the corresponding element and issue control commands for the element to be carried out by the corresponding field drop.

Abstract:
Methods and systems regarding an electricity meter in a wireless network are disclosed. The network may comprise a collector and a plurality of electricity meters that measure consumption of electricity and that bi-directionally communicate wirelessly with the collector. The electricity meter may have an established association with at least one battery-powered meter that measures consumption of a commodity other than electricity. The electricity meter may receive information about measured consumption of the other commodity from the battery-powered meter and store the received information. The electricity meter may transmit both information about consumption of electricity measured by the electricity meter and the information about consumption of the other commodity received from the associated battery-powered meter to the collector via the wireless network and also to a remotely located display associated with the electricity meter.

Abstract:
A system for monitoring and controlling an electrical distribution network comprises an electrical distribution substation having a local area network (LAN), a feeder subsystem and a gateway. The feeder subsystem is coupled to the substation and receives electrical energy therefrom for distribution to customers, and includes slave devices for performing switching functions. The gateway provides remote access to the slave devices and the LAN.
