Abstract:
A method and apparatus for the production of ketones via a one-step synthesis from aldehydes. In the method of the invention, an aldehyde, a carboxylic acid, and a source of oxygen, such as water, are allowed to react in the vapor phase in a catalytic tube reactor. Asymmetrical ketones, such as methyl cyclopropyl ketone, are particularly desirable reaction products.
Method And Apparatus For The Preparation Of Aldehydes
A method and an apparatus for producing aromatic aldehydes, including benzaldehyde and metatolualdehyde. Raw materials and a source of oxygen are fed into a tube reactor. The raw materials may be in a liquid or vapor phase. The reaction to form the aldehyde is catalyzed by suitable solid or liquid catalysts, including copper containing catalysts.

Abstract:
A process for the production of an amide comprising: (a) reacting R—CX and oxygen to form R—COOH, wherein the reacting occurs in the liquid or vapor phase and in the presence of a first catalyst, wherein X is a group that leaves upon oxidation, and wherein Ris phenyl, which is unsubstituted or substituted by one or more identical or different radicals selected from (C-C)-alkyl, (C-C)-alkoxy, (C-C)-alkanoyloxy, (C-C)-alkanoyl, amino, hydroxyl, —CH—O—(C-C)-alkyl, —NH—(C-C)-alkyl, —NH—CO—(C-C)-alkyl, or —S—(C-C)-alkyl; (b) separating the R—COOH from the mixture formed in step (a), wherein the R—COOH is maintained in a liquid or vapor phase; and (c) reacting the R—COOH maintained in the liquid or vapor phase from step (b) with an amine to form an amide, wherein the reacting occurs in the vapor phase and in the presence of a second catalyst.
