Abstract:

Well log data is assigned depositional labels by a soft computing method. A model is trained on an expert-interpreted well log by segmenting, assigning fuzzy symbols to the segments, and calculating attribute values for units labeled by the expert. From these values, classifiers are trained for each of a number of depositional types. Finally, a model is developed for translating fuzzy symbols into depositional labels. Once trained, the model is applied to well log data.

A fiberoptic illumination system having an attenuator with a "multiple wedge" aperture that more uniformly attenuates the light beam striking the fiberoptic without changing the color temperature of the light beam or affecting the exit divergence angle of the light beam. Abstract:

Carriers of a type, each with two elastically bendable holding pieces extending inwardly from its frame-like housing to hold a thin integrated circuit (IC) therebetween, are delivered to a specified pick-up location. A robotically operated pick-up module has a frame-like structure with windows, admits these carriers individually into these windows, and clamps them within these windows by means of an actuator-controlled clamping member. After they are brought to a transfer station having seats with openings connected to a negative pressure source, their holding pieces are pushed apart by activating another actuator within the module so as to move claw-like unlatching members. The ICs, which are then placed on the seats of the transfer station and released from their carriers, are picked up by vacuum suction pipes connected to vacuum pumps. While these ICs are suspended at bottom openings of these suction pipes, the module is robotically taken to a specified discharge location where the carriers, which are now empty, are released from their clamped conditions as the actuator-controlled clamping member is retracted. The ICs are thereafter brought to their desired positions and dropped off from the bottom openings of the suction pipes.

Abstract:

A disk gripper has a rotary actuator with a horizontally supported shaft, a swing arm which is attached to and can rotate with this shaft and a finger arm which is connected to the swing arm such that the connected arms together extend radially from the shaft. Gripper fingers on the finger arm have mutually coplanar flat outer surfaces which point downward when the arms are in the horizontally extended position. The gripper fingers are provided with grooves and are movable toward or away from one another while their flat outer surfaces slidingly move over a horizontal support surface such that a disk lying on this surface can be engaged in these grooves or disengaged therefrom. The swing arm and the finger arm are slidable within a limited distance with respect to each other in a direction perpendicular to their extension. A spring applies a biasing force on the finger arm with respect to the swing arm such that, when the arms are in the horizontally extended position, the biasing force of the spring on the finger arm is in the downward direction.

Abstract:

A shield for use in a sputtering system. The shield includes a support having an inner expanse defining a two-dimensional array of cavities. The cavities are formed of two-dimensionally concave wall surfaces, where the intersections of the wall surfaces of adjacent cavities form a two-dimensional array of edges on the expanse. The shield minimizes the tendency of material deposited on the shield surface, such as sputtered carbon material, from flaking off during a sputtering operation. Also disclosed is a sputtering assembly that employs the shield.
