Abstract:
An ultrasound bell for attachment to an acoustic stethoscope includes threads that mate with threads located on the turret of the acoustic stethoscope. The ultrasound bell includes an ultrasound transmitter for emitting ultrasound acoustic waves or signals and an ultrasound detector for receiving reflected ultrasound acoustic waves and converting the reflected ultrasound acoustic waves into electric signals. Electronic circuitry within the ultrasound bell converts the electric signals created by the ultrasound detector into sound waves emitted by a speaker. The speaker is acoustically coupled to the turret of the acoustic stethoscope such that an airtight acoustic wave pathway is formed between the ultrasound bell and the turret of the stethoscope.

Abstract:
A hand-held, battery operated, Doppler ultrasound diagnostic device for use in obstetrical applications to, for example, measure fetal heartbeat, and vascular applications to, for example, measure blood flow and pressure, includes a cordless probe, a base unit, and an electric recharging stand. The probe detects the physical response signal being monitored through Doppler ultrasound techniques. The signal is used to frequency modulate a sine wave carrier signal which is transmitted by the probe and received by the base unit. The carrier signal frequency and wave form is chosen so as not to cause interference with other medical equipment that may be nearby. The base unit demodulates the carrier signal and retrieves the human response signal. The base unit displays the human response signal visually with an LED display and audibly with built in speakers. In addition, the base unit includes an output connectors which allow the human response signal to be recorded on a tape recorder or played through earphones.

Abstract:
An automated vascular testing apparatus includes capillary blood flow sensors and blood pressure detection sensors to detect data regarding the blood flow of a patient. Error detection apparatus insures that the blood data sensors are properly connected and that the output signals therefrom are reliable and provide an adequate basis for measurement. A controller monitors the output signals from the sensors and manages the overall operation of the automated testing procedures. The controller memory temporarily stores the output signals from the blood data sensors, along with other miscellaneous data. A video display presents instructions, data, and conclusions based on accepted medical theories to the operator, while a printer optionally reproduces these data in hard copy form.
