Abstract:

A system and method for controlling closed-captioning at a client device includes a client device and a server device that communicates content to the client device. The server device determines a content type corresponding to the content communicated from the server device to the client device, generates a closed-captioning disable signal and communicates the content type disable signal to the client device. The client device disables the closed-captioning in response to the closed-captioning disable signal.

Abstract:

A system and method for displaying graphics in a content distribution system includes a client device and a server device that communicates an allocate buffer command signal to the client device. The client device reserves an off-screen buffer having buffer identifier associated therewith and communicates a buffer response signal comprising the buffer identifier to the server device. The server device communicates a write command signal comprising graphics data and the buffer identifier to the client device. The client device stores the graphics data in an off-screen buffer in response to write command signal, transfers the graphics data from the off-screen buffer to an on-screen buffer and displays graphics corresponding to the graphics data on a display associated with the client device. A bit blit command may be used to transfer the graphics data from the off-screen buffer to the on-screen buffer.

A communication system includes a content repository storing a plurality of content files associated with the content distribution system. A transport processing system communicating with the content distribution system, a terrestrial communication network , and a content delivery network communicating with the content distribution system and the terrestrial network. The content distribution system assigns a satellite category or a broadband category to each of the plurality of content files in response to the satellite category. The content distribution system communicates the content to the transport processing system. The transport processing system communicates the content through a satellite from the transport processing system to a user device. The content distribution system, in response to the broadband category, communicates the content to the content delivery network. The content delivery network communicates the content through a terrestrial communication network to the user device.

A communication system includes a content management system determining broadband content availability, a video transport processing system generating a plurality of packets for a content stream or in at least some of the packets comprising all packets, and a transport processing system dividing the broadband content availability into broadband content availability packets. Abstract:

A system and method for testing a set top box includes a test manager module in communication with the set top box having a test script including a bitstream. A bitstream player in communication with the test manager module receives the bitstream and communicates the bitstream to the set top box. The test manager module receives a screen image from the set top box that is generated in response to the bitstream. An optical character recognition module performs optical character recognition to obtain a test text string from the screen image. The test manager module compares the test text string with an expected text string. A report module generates a report in response to comparing.
