Abstract:

Apparatus and method for processing sound as delta modulated digital data bits. A speaker console communicates with a listener console through a central switching unit. Tri-state generators within the central switching unit convert bipolar data modulated speaker data to tri-state logic which is then multiplexed onto a bus. The bus is sampled by a plurality of listener modules of a majority detector unit according to desired speaker combinations and a majority output is thereby determined for each time slot. A data generator modifies a bipolar delta modulated idle waveform according to the state of the idle waveform and the historical output of a listener module, incrementing and decrementing a carry register and a borrow register in the data generator to reflect storage, insertion or cancelling of majority "ones" or "zeros". The combining logic of the data generator enables the central switching unit to produce a combined output having the initial speaker data bit rate.

Abstract:

This invention provides a simple system for simultaneous raster scan display of video and alpha-numeric data on a single screen with provision for periodic image refreshment. It includes means for encoding the electrical signals representing the spatial intensity distribution of the video signal and the alpha-numeric signal. The coded signals are stored in a single bit map memory at the desired addresses. For display, the information is simply read from the memory through a single digital-to-analog convertor.

Abstract:

A system for transporting, storing and installing flexible gymnasium floor covering is provided. The system includes a spindle for supporting a roll of floor covering, and a transporting device having a longitudinal frame, casters attached to the frame, lifting arms for lifting the spindle, linear actuators for raising and lowering the lifting arms, means for powering and controlling the linear actuators and means for storing unused spindles. A method for transporting flexible floor covering is also provided and includes the steps of placing a spindle along an unrolled piece of floor covering and rolling the floor covering up around the spindle, moving a transporting device into position so that the bearing surfaces of the lifting arm are aligned with the arms of the spindle, lifting the spindle, moving the transporting device to the desired location and lowering the spindle.
