  • Assignee:
Oak Industries Inc. - Crystal Lake IL
  • International Classification:
    H04N 716
  • US Classification:
    358122
  • Abstract:
A subscription TV decoder for processing encoded audio and video signals utilizes decoder enabling signals which are transmitted as audio subcarriers and have data and address portions thereof. The decoder includes audio and video decoder circuits and a decoder enabling circuit. The enabling circuit has address storage means and means for comparing the address portion of a received message with the stored address. There are means responsive to the address comparison means for storing the data portion of the message. The enabling message utilizes an address common to a plurality of subscribers and there are means responsive to a received enabling message for comparing the stored data with the enabling message data and to enable the audio and video decoder circuits in response to correspondence therebetween.
  • Audience Survey System

  • US Patent:
    48476854, Jul 11, 1989
  • Filed:
    Aug 7, 1987
  • Appl. No.:
    7/082587
  • Inventors:
Richard C. Gall - Middleton WI
Donald A. Weigt - Madison WI
Steven L. Paugh - Madison WI
  • Assignee:
Audience Information Measurement System - Madison WI
  • International Classification:
    H04H 900
    H04N 1700
  • US Classification:
    358 84
  • Abstract:
A system for automatically surveying television viewership detects horizontal and vertical synchronization signals and determines the relative phases of these signals with respect to a time base counter in a survey unit. All stations in the viewing area are monitored to determine the relative phases of the broadcast synchronization signals with respect to a time base counter of the monitoring unit. Then, the data are correlated to determine the channels being viewed. Correlation is made by comparing the direction and magnitude of phase shifts of the synchronization signals in the surveyed unit with the data produced by the unit monitoring all stations.

  • Assignee:
Oak Industries Inc. - Crustal Lake IL
  • International Classification:
    H04N 144
  • US Classification:
    358121
  • Abstract:
A subscription TV decoder for processing encoded audio and video signals in which the TV program audio information is received as an audio subcarrier includes means for decoding the video signal, a filter for separating the decoded video and audio signals, and a filter for separating the audio signal from the audio information subcarrier. The audio information subcarrier is multiplied to raise it to the frequency of the audio signal and is then recombined with the decoded video signal.
