    A rail lighting system includes an adapter having contact members with elongated portions. A body having an opening for a rail receives the contacts such that the elongated portions extend adjacent the rail. A wedge includes members that engage the contacts to urge the elongated portions toward the rail. The wedge is secured to a cap that threadedly engages the body. The rail includes at least one conductor in opposite end portions of the rail with respect to its depth. The conductors of the rail may include a single conductor or, alternatively conductors on opposite sides of the rail. A lighting fixture spring clip includes sets of opposite tangs including a first set having V-shaped end portions to engage a notched lamp base and a second set having curved end portions for engaging an enclosure barrier.

    A fluorescent adapter having a housing including a tip contact compatible with an electrical socket, a threaded ring contact compatible with the electrical socket, the ring contact surrounding the housing and rotatable with the housing when the housing is rotated in a first direction and not rotatable with the housing when the housing is rotated in an opposite direction, and a fluorescent ballast supported by the housing and having input electrodes in electrical contact with the tip contact and the ring contact, respectively, and output electrodes for removably receiving the contact pins of a fluorescent lamp. The adapter is easily inserted into the socket but is not removable after insertion.

    A fluorescent lamp includes a ballast releasably connected to an adapter in a bayonet style connection. The adapter includes a locking tab for preventing removal of the adapter from an electrical socket once the adapter has been installed in the electrical socket. The fluorescent lamp has a lamp tube. The lamp tube is preferably connected to a base in a manner to minimize the total height of the fluorescent lamp. The lamp base is preferably provided with a recess in which contact pins are connected to the lamp base. The lamp may be directly connected to the ballast. The lamp tube may be arranged in a coil having a greater radial outer extent than the base or than the ballast.

The ducted passageways aid in convective heat dissipation through a “chimney” type of affect.

    The invention relates to a device for electrically connecting wires. The device includes first and second nonconductive housing sections adapted to be mateably secured together to form a substantially closed housing. An electrically conductive contact is disposed within the housing and has a first end including a tang for piercing the insulation of the first wire and making electrical contact with the center conductor thereof, a second end including a tang for piercing the insulation of the second wire and making electrical contact with the center conductor thereof, and a connecting portion electrically connecting the first end and the second end to provide an electrical path from the center conductor of the first wire through the contact to the center conductor of the second wire. At least one boss is located in the housing for pressing the ends of the first and second wires against the tangs of the electrically conductive contact when the housing sections are mated to one another sufficient to cause the tangs to pierce the insulation and make electrical contact with the center conductors and to secure the ends within the housing.
