SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) - Earl Peterson and Ben Richardson scored 12 points apiece as Loyola of Chicago held on in the face of a second-half rally to beat Missouri State 53-50 on Wednesday night, snapping a five-game slide.
They outscored the Ramblers (12-4, 2-2) 44-25 after trailing by five at the break to pick up their 22nd straight league win. Earl Peterson led Loyola with 13 points and Devon Turk scored 11. The emerging Ramblers hit 10 of 18 3-pointers but simply came up short down the stretch against the leagues
for a 41-31 edge. The Shockers pushed that lead to 53-42 on a three by VanVleet, with four seconds on the shot clock. Loyola's Earl Peterson, a Coffeyville Community College product, banked in a shot from half-court, at the shot-block buzzer, to cut the lead to 53-45 and bring the crowd back to life.
The Ramblers have two scholarship seniors and will return most of their scoring and rebounding next season. With freshman Donte Ingram and junior transfers Earl Peterson and Montel James, Moser added depth to this team and reduced the burden on star sophomore Milton Doyle. James, who started the fi
started Loyolas rally with a three-point play. His spin move past two defenders tied the game 23-all. After a turnover by Carter, Earl Petersons corner three gave the Ramblers a 26-23 lead. After Morris tried to force a pass through the double-team, Peterson made a short jumper for a 28-23 lead.
"You might as well not vote at all if you're not going to vote for who you want," echoed Earl Peterson, 72, pausing between errands in Greenville, where a giant billboard declares on the way into town: "God Is Pro-Life."
