A shelter system for use within an environment having air includes an enclosure disposable within the environment formed of an air impermeable material. The enclosure is expansible from a collapsed configuration to a usage configuration and is configured to define an interior chamber, to contain a quantity of air within the chamber, and to substantially prevent entry of the environment air into the chamber. An oxygen generator disposable within the enclosure includes a housing and a quantity of oxygen-producing material disposable within the housing for generating oxygen by spontaneous chemical reaction, the oxygen being discharged to the enclosure chamber. A carbon dioxide removal device disposable within the enclosure includes a chamber, a reactive material disposed within the chamber for removing carbon dioxide from the enclosure air, and a fan initiating flow through the chamber. The system may be used within a building, a vehicle, or an open environment.

Abstract:
A flexible, inflatable shelter is held within a storage container. The shelter can be erected rapidly, by directing compressed gas held or produced within the container, into the flexible material which will define the finished shelter. Personnel using the shelter then enter through an air lock door located in the storage container. An air lock may be alternatively provided such that is located at least partly within the deployed shelter, and so that it does not occupy substantial space in the container. The container includes supplies necessary to sustain life for an extended period. The shelter can be used to protect personnel from harmful environments caused by accidents or explosions in mines, tunnels, industrial plants, and the like. The container is compact, but allows rapid deployment of the flexible material to produce a shelter which is of approximately the same volume, or greater, than that of the storage container.
Pressurization Device And Air Treatment System For A Shelter
A pressurization device is for a flexible enclosure disposable within an environment having air at a pressure and configured to define an interior chamber having a sufficient volume to entirely contain at least one person and containing air. The device includes a gas generator configured to generate and release a gas into the enclosure chamber such that the enclosure air pressure is increased or maintained above the environment air pressure to prevent entry of environment air into the enclosure chamber. The generator is preferably configured to generate the gas by a chemical reaction, and preferably includes a quantity of at least one reactant, such as sodium nitrate, sulfuric acid or ammonium chloride, and initiates chemical reaction of the reactant to generate the gas. Furthermore, the pressurization device is preferably incorporated into an air treatment system including an oxygen generator that generates and discharges oxygen into the enclosure chamber.

Abstract:
A cooling composition comprising at least two solid particulate powders that undergo an endothermic chemical reaction when mixed together. The composition is made up of chemicals in dry powder form, making it unnecessary to use any liquid to initiate the chemical reaction. The resulting mixture is useful for cooling surfaces, liquids and solids.

Abstract:
A method, system and apparatus for mobile deployment of a supply of safe breathable air in sufficient quantity and quality to support life functions without further augmentation in respirable particles of about 10 μm or less in aerodynamic equivalent diameter are captured and removed from the external ambient atmosphere as are water soluble co-pollutants prior to introduction of safe breathable air to the confined space, and where manipulation of the sensible and latent heat content of the supplied safe breathable air is undertaken to maintain a differential in vapor pressure such that it promotes a skin evaporation rate that ensures that the body core temperature can be maintained by its thermoregulatory processes.
Method And Apparatus For Providing Refuge Passageways

Abstract:
A system and method for providing safe passageways in refuge walls such that the completed apparatus limits the infiltration of noxious and/or hazardous gasses in the atmosphere external to the refuge from entering the refuge during personnel ingress or egress, in which entry and exit can be accomplished without contaminating the refuge environment by way of flexible, conforming, rubber like sheeting, partially overlapped in single or multiple layers of varying directions, that will conform to occupants as they enter or leave the refuge or shelter.
Method And Apparatus For Providing Controlled Atmosphere In Mobile Mine Refuges

International Classification:

Abstract:
A system, device and method for rapid delivery of clean air to occupants of a deployed mine refuge from a surface source after the refuge has been deployed and before the self-contained air has been consumed or before the temperature in the refuge has increased to hazardous levels in which a drilling rig is used to a borehole in close proximity to the mine refuge's underground location and a supply duct is lowered through the borehole to the underground mine near the refuge; upon hearing an alarm sounded by the system, a refuge occupant would exit the refuge, using existing personal breathing protection, to retrieve the duct and connect it to the mine refuge.
