Abstract:

A method and apparatus for disposing of drill cuttings from an oil and/or gas well drilling platform , comprising (a) transporting the drill cuttings to a cuttings collection area on the platform ; (b) providing a barge , the barge having at least one storage area , a cover operably connected to the at least one storage area , and covering the at least one storage area ; (c) placing the cover in a first open state so that cuttings can be placed in the at least one storage area ; (d) transporting the drill cuttings from the cuttings collection area to the at least one storage area of the barge ; (e) placing the cover in a closed state so that the cuttings in the storage area of the barge are contained; (f) transporting the barge from the drilling platform to a collection site ; (g) placing the cover in a second open state so that the cuttings in the storage area can be removed; and (h) removing the cuttings from the storage area.
