Abstract:

Apparatus for stripping ceramic coatings from the surfaces of articles. The apparatus includes a dedicated pressure vessel, such as an autoclave, which is maintained at an elevated temperature. Caustic solution is preheated to a first elevated temperature before injecting it into the autoclave, and the caustic solution is filtered and cooled after use in the autoclave. The articles are stripped of coating by maintaining the articles at an elevated temperature and pressure for a predetermined time. Various options include the use of analytical equipment to maintain the chemistry of the caustic solution and use of a volatile organic solution to prepressurize the autoclave and shorten cycle time. The autoclave is maintained in a nitrogen chamber to minimize the risks associated with volatile components. The articles are transferred to a separate pressure vessel after completion of the stripping operation so that the autoclave used for stripping can be maintained at an elevated temperature, thereby shortening the cycle time for stripping of additional articles.

A fluid filled transformer including a tank for containing at least primary and secondary windings, a radiator connected to the tank via top and bottom headers, a fluid disposed in the tank, a fluid circulation flow path including passages through the windings, radiator, headers, and at least a portion of the tank, and at least one diagnostic sensor disposed within the fluid circulation flow path for measuring properties of the fluid. By positioning the sensor within the circulation flow path, measured values are more reliable, accurate, and efficiently sensed.

Abstract:

An intelligent analysis apparatus and method for fluid filled electrical equipment includes sensors for measuring various parameters of the electrical equipment. Analytical models calculate parameters based on measurements of other parameters. The measured and calculated parameters are compared and the result of the comparison is used as an indicator in a causal network. The probabilities of the causal network are recalculated by a belief network. The analytical models are adjusted over time to account for acceptable changes in behavior of the equipment over time. The output of the causal network can be used for diagnostic and prognostic indication.

Abstract:

A status detection apparatus for electrical equipment includes a plurality of distributed multiparameter sensors in a containment vessel or other fluid filled region of the electrical equipment. The sensors are capable of providing data relating to plural parameters of the fluid simultaneously at different positions in the fluid. The data provided by the sensors can be processed to permit localization of incipient faults or can indicate other operating states when combined with known flow data of the fluid through the electrical equipment. A method for detecting status of electrical equipment includes sensing parameters simultaneously at multiple locations in the fluid and determining operating status based on the sensed parameters.

Abstract:

A method for determining the concentration of at least one acid or base in a complex solution is described. Multiple physical property values are first measured for the solution. The physical properties can be defined in the form of a set of solution property equations. The measured physical property values are then inserted into the solution property equations. When the equations are simultaneously solved, the desired concentration of the acid or basic component can be determined.

Abstract:

Low-particulate dihydric aromatic compounds such as bisphenol-A that can be used in the synthesis of low-particulate polycarbonates are prepared by introducing into a desorber column containing a non-aggregate packing material an adduct of bisphenol and phenol and optionally a stripping gas. The column is maintained at an operating temperature that is sufficiently high and an operating pressure that is sufficiently low such that the adduct is distilled. The stream of phenol and the stripping gas is recovered from the top of the column. A second stream containing bisphenol that is substantially free of added particulate matter is recovered from the bottom of the column. This purified stream of bisphenol-A can further be used in a method of producing optical-grade polycarbonate.

Abstract:

An apparatus for evaluating an associated semiconductor sample having two electrically distinct regions with a junction region disposed therebetween includes a laser for injecting carriers into a sample region, an electrical bias for impressing electrical fields on the sample, and a detector for detecting luminescence. A second laser is provided for injecting carriers into a second sample region opposite the first region. A method includes the steps of: optically generating carriers in a region, generating a drift field in the region that effectuates carrier drift toward the junction, and measuring the optical radiation generated by carrier recombination in the junction region. Preferably, the method also includes optically generating carriers in a second region and generating a drift field in the second region that effectuates carrier drift toward the junction. Typically, the two drift fields are generated together by applying voltage between the two regions.
